Tanning bed and sunscreen?

I'd like to be able to utilize the "unlimited, free" usage of the tanning beds at my gym, and get myself a nice tan so I don't burn over the summer. I'd like to use sunscreen to block out harmful uva and uvb rays, but still get a nice golden tan. Is this pointless?

I actually read this really good article about it, you'll find more useful information there I'm sure:

I wouldn't use sunscreen. Just use a lotion and start out with short sessions. All beds are different so you need to make sure you don't stay in too long. For example, if the max time in the bed is 12 minutes, start out with 3 or 4 minutes until you get a little color, then go to 7 or 8 and so on. I tanned for years but now I just use the Jergens tanning moisturizer.
Reply:just use a self tanning spray I honestly don't think even the sunscreen would help and anyway you wouldn't really get tanned
