PLEASE HELP!I don't want to go to the tanning booth anymore..but don't want to get a sunburn in summer either.

My questions :Since I went almost every week to the tanning salon..to keep my sun tan I wondering what will happen if I start using fake self tanner...instead of going.which I am planning on doing anyways..since I know that u can get skincancer .....I mean since my tan (real tan) will start to fade..but I will mantain a tan cause I am using selftanner....my biggest worry is....what will happen in summer...since I will be using self tanner over the winter time???Will I have a sunburn in summer ..when tanning under the real sun since my real tan will be gone? I also heard that the skin changes every months ..or renews itself ..every month ...but that does not mean that my real tan will be gone after one month if I stop going to the tanning salon or will it???(I have a quite dark tan from already tanning in sunny countries where I lived before(africa, southamerica)

Hope someone can help me!!!!!apreciate every answer !!!!Thanks!!!!

Well done for not using sunbeds any more

they are really dangerous.

Fake bake is great, it does come off after a little while.

Say you go on holiday in june

Apply some in may and leave it to fade out so when you go on holida your basically starting from scratch then top it up when you come back after it starts to fade. If you keep putting fake tan on before you go on holiday you wont burn any easier than without it as long as you use suncream but putting sun cream and fake tan on could leave your skin looking streaky.

the best option would be to used a tan enhanching body lotion which builds up a gradual tan and then fades after a month or two. It leaves you with no streaks and is cheap enough

hope this helped even though i basiclaly repeated myself :/ but yeah as i said well done for quitting the tanning booths :]

Go for a session of airbrush tan, if you look up on the internet there are some mobile businesses that come to your home(Around $60) and the tan lasts for a few weeks and is much healthier for your skin

I would do that once a month to maintain
Reply:Getting a base from a tanning salon does not help prevent sunburn. It actually ups your chance of getting sunburned and skin cancer. So i would avoid going to the tanning salon.

Skin has a top layer of the skin, th epidermis, it is the one that is always repairing itself. Layers of skin cells are underneath it. When your skin is flaky, that means a new layer of soft, glowing skin is beneath it. That's why it's so important to exfoliate. It is responsible for your coulouring and pigment.

Tans do not disappear that fast. It will not disappear after you stop using tanning salons. Especially since you have such a dark color, already. To make it stay longer--(well, sun tanning in general dries skin out and sheds skin cells more quickly) so apply body lotion in morning and evening--LOTS of it when skin's damp!

I would advise over using self tanner over the winter. Since it tends to dry out skin. And it would look weird since most people tend to have their lightest skin over the winter. Unless you live somewhere with sun year round.

But if you still want a tan in winter, only apply fake tanner a couple of days when it starts to fade very visibly.

If you stop using self-tanner over the winter. In the summer, once you get a tan again. For foundation--buy a bottle of colored foundation that you were in the winter--your palest time. Also buy one that is designed for black skin. Add a drop and mix it to match your skin as you get a deeper tan.

SELF TANNER TIPS:

~Exfoliate and scrub away flaky skin before aplying colour. Or else you'll get a patchy result.

~Massage in body lotion over treated area beforehand.

~Go with a lighter shade choice, since if you want it darker, just apply more.

~Work it firmly until it's completely dry.

~Normally areas that don't tan, wipe with damp cottonball.

~Keep your skin safe and use self-tanner by using sun screen under. Make sure the sunscreen is in conjuction with your skin type. Don't forget to use lip products w/ SPF.

~Burning is not fun. Wear SPF! It's a sign of skin damage if you do get burned--even once.
