Tanning in a salon -- help?!?

i'm going to try a tanning bed at a salon for the first time. I'm type 2 skin - minimally tans, easily burns, can anyone reccomend a good bed and lotion to start with to prevent burning?? any good tips for tanning??
Tanning in a salon -- help?!?
Since it is your very first time going to a tanning salon, I would go in for only 10 minutes. I know it seems like a waste and like it might not make a difference, but because it's your first time and you burn easily, it's important to develop a base tan first. I would go with a standard, regular bed and use any lotion that has a decent spf in it (do NOT use oil, because they ruin the tanning beds) and avoid any kind of lotion that has special tinglers because that could cause your body to turn red (it happened to my sister who has the same skin type as you). So yeah try 10 minutes for your first time, then as you continue to make trips to the salon, SLOWLY increase the time. Maybe go with 10 minutes a couple times and then if your skin is okay jump up for 12-13, then later on go for 15.. and if you're still okay, go for 20. Remember though that the people that work at the tanning salon will give you great advice on protecting your type of skin, so it'd be a good idea to ask them which specific lotion you should buy, which bed, etc. Basically, let them know about your skin so they give you the proper service. Good luck, happy tanning!

use an accelerator lotion no tingle factor and if you get hot get out it usuallt means you are burning
Reply:DO NOT TAN FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES FOR THE FIRST TIME. As for the tanning lotion try Banana Boat SPF 8 tanning oil. Do not get the bronzer content unless you like the umpa lumpa look.
Reply:Yes. DON't do it. Skin cancer is the main reason - look up the information before doing it. If you are burning then the machine is set to high. Be happy with what you have - it's better than developing cancer later.
Reply:Tanning just like being out in the sun causes skin problems. One problem is in a few years from now you will start to look a lot older than you really are. If you are looking to get a tan and don't want all the health risks that come with it just get some of those lotions they have out now that can make your skin be tan or try tanning sprays.
Reply:I would recommend that you not even tan for 10 minutes. I am type 2 skin as well, and with the powerful beds they have out there now, I literally would start with around 6-7 minutes, and then build my way up from there. If you start out slow, then there really isn't a need for a tanning lotion, unless you want to completely protect an area from exposure. In addition, my skin is a bit sensitive before I've built up a tan, so I have to make sure I don't have skin moisturizers on because they sometimes react to the rays and cause a skin irritation.
Reply:Well, if you know the risks, then you're pretty stupid and hardheaded. If my pack of cigarettes come with a damn cancer warning, so should a tanning booth. I think tanning booths should be banned, since they seem to attract ignorant girls like moths to a flame.

By the way, A LOT of guys hate tans! You can tell when someone has a booth tan, it doesn't look good, and sometimes you'll look just as orange from a booth as you would from cheap self-tanner. Compare Nicole Kidman to Paris Hilton and tell me whose skin looks better. NICOLE'S!
Reply:Remember to start out with an entry level bed, most importantly. Also, go for about 4-6 minutes. No longer! Once you can tan without turning pink, you can increase your time in 1-2 minute intervals.

California Tan makes great Level 1 base tan building products. Using an intense moisturizer afterwards also helps.

Good luck!
