Will the tanning bed get me tan or am I going to be wasting my $?

My friend from high school was always so pale! I saw her recently, and she had a beautiful tan. I was so shocked. She looked gorgeous and healthy. I'm thinking about buying minutes. I've been to the tanning bed before, but I rarely went (years ago). Would it be wasting my $ though? I'm pretty pale. I mean not unusually pale, but I am a natural redhead. I've been pretty tan before by laying out (I live at the beach). But it's getting a little chilly now, so I'm thinking about going to the tanning bed. Anyone know of any good lotions? Should I buy some minutes? What kind of packages are out there even though I think I may want to buy monthly. (if possible) ha

The tanning bed will give you a wonderful tan. It will also age your skin and give you cancer in the future. The ugliness of the scars of skin cancer excisions will be much greater and far longer lasting than the tan you get now. Use the spray on tans and avoid the premature aging and cancer.

itll get u tan, but in 10 years take alook at ur friend she wil llook like leatherface and have skin cancer... LOL
Reply:Palm Beach Tan is a good tanning spot. They have the best beds. It will definately get you tan, but you would have to go every other day for about a month and half. I wouldn't recommend it though, it is very bad for your skin, can cause cancer when you're older, and gives you wrinkles. Do the Mystic tan, it is safe. As they say the only safe tan is the fake one.
Reply:Its dangerous you could die from cancer...

I know someone who died from using a tanning bed and she was only 26 it gave her cancer tumors everywhere.
Reply:Everyone's different. Some natural red heads can tan fairly easily and others just burn. I wouldn't buy a package or anything at first, just go a few times to see if it makes a difference and then after that you can buy a package.
Reply:Not worth it - it will ruin your skin. And it can even cause more serious damage that can lead to cancer...being a red-head is a risk factor.
Reply:Read the source below before going to a tanning salon.
Reply:First of all, find a reputable tanning salon that will take the time to explain the tanning process to you. You can try to find one that has been certified by an agency such as "Smart Tan."

People with fair skin can tan, but it usually takes more sessions with shorter session times every 2-3 days. Tanning once every week (or even once every other week for some people) will maintain your tan once you achieve it.

Moderate tanning, for individuals who can develop a tan, is the smartest way to maximize the potential benefits of sun exposure while minimizing the potential risks associated with either too much or too little sunlight. For more information go to: www.tanningtruth.com

As for those who have health concerns, did you know that up to 90 percent of North Americans are Vitamin D deficient?

Dr. Michael Holick, a leading Vitamin D researcher has been compiling data related to the insufficient amount of UVB outdoors during the Northeast winter for a person to produce Vitamin D. Our tanning beds produce the UVB necessary to produce Vitamin D.

- Vitamin D studies have shown that Vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of colon, breast and ovarian cancers by up to 50% and also shows an increased risk of 17 other varieties of cancer, including prostate cancer.

- Vitamin D deficiency is a leading cause of osteoporosis. It is also believed to be linked muscular sclerosis, diabetes, depression, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, muscle weakness and even heart disease.
Reply:I too am a red head. I actually used to dye my hair blonde though, and in those days I went tanning. My skin as well is super pale and I wanted a nice golden tan. Theres 2 things a red head needs to know about tanning (and believe me, it took me a lot of trial and error to discover these two lame secrets) 1. the bed- you need a 'bronzing bed'. Not everywhere has one and a lot of places will act like they dont exist, but they do. I found one in a small hair studio, and its magic.

2. the lotion. You are pale. You need a bronzer. I liked "OC" and babie (its pink and looks like it says barbie on it).

BUT I am a red head. Once you get over the wanting to look like a tanned blonde look, you'll realize how hot pale skin is. I wear sunscreen all the ime now and try to keep my skin natural and pale. Pale is in and tanning beds are out. They will do nothing but age your skin and burn you. Theres skin cancer risks too, but who doesnt know that. I hope you see a beauty in your paleness, and opt the tanning.
