Is Tanning At All Possible For Me?

About six years ago, my family was staying at Myrtle Beach for a week in the summer. While we were there, I was outside in the sun so much that I actually got sun poisoning.

Now, it's been about four years since I've had a tan - but I've been going to the tanning bed for about two weeks now, and all I've done is burnt. I've used lotions, of course, but nothing seems to help.

(Before I went to the tanning bed, I was technically the palest shade of skin that you can find bottled in foundation.)

My family has guessed this is because I inherited the most Germanistic features.

I'm roughly (I'm not exactly sure on these calculations, but whatever) 50% German, 40% Italian, and 10% Native American Cherokee. My mother thinks that my natural skin color is just too pale to tan - and I'm wondering if that's even possible, considering that she, my father, and my sister are all olive colored.

i no this is an annoying answer, but you obviouly have a wonderfuly mixed heritage, which gives you reasonably individual and very beautiful mix of feautures. this mix will give you a skin colour that is not only beatiful and unusual, but suits the rest of your colouring better than any other colour. i think you should do your best to preserve that colour. this will look the most beautiful an natural, and is the best option for your skin in terms of aging, cancer etc

i personally find desperate attempts to tan and look darker just as upsetting and disturbing as when people with dark skin desperatly try to look fairer with bleaching creams etc. its a regection of your heritae and its terrible for your skin.

i'm pale and i spent so many years trying to get more tanned, i gave up on the sun because i just burnt, got sun stroke etc. then i tryed fake tan, it looked awful and unnatural, not just because it was fake, but because it didnt suit me. ive learnt to love my paleness, and i keep it looking healthy by exfoliating and moisturising my face and body a lot, and using blusher on my cheeks so i look healthy and rosy. take inspiration from beautiful pale women, like dita von teese and nicole kidman, and mischa barton they look beautiful...and so do you!

no stay out of the sun, embrace your whiteness
Reply:Certain skin tones from certain places are basically unable to tan for the most part. My sister inherited more of the British Isles genes from the Scottish line, and she's always been pale and has never been able to tan.

Myself, I'm light but slightly a bit more of a yellow or earthy tone then my sister. It takes only a very short time for her to BURN, while I can be out much longer, however I don't tan overly easy either...

So yeah, you may just be more like my sister. It probably is possible for you to tan a *little* but it's probably a very slow and gradual process. It could take a whole summer to really get much of anything, so at that point...it would be funner to be doing other things.
