Need tanning advice - 1 month till WEDDING DAY!!! HELP!!!?

OK. My wedding is about 30 days away now, and we are flying to Jamaica the day after. I want to tan before I go to Jamaica, because I burn easy, but I don't want to look like I've "fake-baked" in my wedding photos.

My dress is ivory with lace, and it is a bit antique looking. We are having the wedding in an old fort, and the guys are wearing black suits, cowboy hats, and boots. I choose Ivory instead of pure white, because white didn't look right with my coloring. I am as pale as they come, with light red hair and brown eyes - oh and like all pale-red heads, I'm covered in freckles.

I purchased a "Tan program" that has 9 tans in it. I dont' want to tan too much, but I don't want to burn crispy the first day in jamaica either. Oh, and I have never tanned before...

Do you know of any tanning tips?

How long should I tan for?

Should I use the lotions?

Should I even tan at all?

Do I need to cover my face in the tanning bed?

I many times should I tan a week? (I have four wks)

i wouldnt use tanning lotions, but you should apply a nice lotion after tanning to keep your skin moist.

i would start tanning 5 mins at a time, you dont want to burn. its hard to tell how much you should tan for, if you dont burn the first time at 5 mins, go the next day for another 5 mins. if you dont burn again, do another 5 mins the next day. after 3 times in the bed at the same length of time, go up a few minutes. id go up to 8 minutes.

then do 8 minutes for a few times. if you do burn after 5 mins, skip a day or 2 before you do your next sessions.

you are better off going in for a little bit and not see result (you wont your first time anyway) then to go in and burn! do a little at a time and slowly build up.

before the wedding, i would make sure you are not tanning at least 3 days in advance to your wedding. you dont want to get burned at the last minute.

even if you dont get to the color you want, you will at least have a base before you go to jamaica, therefore you wont burn!

good luck and congrats on getting married!!!!!

UPDATE* i forgot to add, if you go into the tanning bed and then feel like you are burning (ie, getting hot) get out of the bed! you are burning! you will feel your face burning first so if need be you can put your tshirt over it. you also would probably want to go nude so you wont get any funky tan lines that you will see in your dress.

most, if not all, places have standing up tanning rooms. you should go in those after using the beds, once you know you wont burn. like after your 3 5 minute sessions, and a few 8 times in the bed. that way the sides of your body will get tanned. you will find the parts under your arms and down wont get as tanned, thats when the standing beds come in to be useful!

Oh and yes tanning is bad for you and I'm sure soo many people ar egoing to tell you not to because it causes cancer. Yes, but so does the natural sun. So should we all just stay inside because of the fear of cancer? I have the impression you are just going tanning for your wedding/jamaica. You won't get cancer for going tanning for a month. Don't worry about it. There are so many things that can give us cancer...so people need to stop throwing that out there.

UPDATE* Considering you burn after 30 minutes, You could even go tanning for 3 minutes at a time. The beds are powerful, and you def dont want to burn and look like a lobster during your wedding. Take the first few times slow, you could go every day for a week for 3 minutes and getting a better result compared to going twice a week for 10 minutes and burning!

Don't tan!! It can cause cancer!

I suggest "Spray on Tan" I know someone who uses it and it looks pretty good.... And you don't have to go to all kind of skin trouble Try it out and if you don't like it... do what u want but remember not to use a tanning bed/booth So bad for you!

Oh yeah Dah to me! CONGRATULATIONS! Have fun!! Hope all goes well!
Reply:use the european or bronzing beds that will give you a great glow and are less likely to burn you and start with a short amount of time. The attendents at the tanning salon should habe a good recommendation for the time limits and what would be best for your skin with the look you're going for.
Reply:this week you should get a base tan - go 3 or 4 times this week then after you get to the color you like you can go once or twice a week depending on if your body keeps color or not. If you dont normally tan in the beds then go for only 6 or 7 min the first time to see how your skin reacts. Tanning in the beds will give you a nice glow as long as you dont go like 100 times before the wedding, who wants to look like that tan freak in their wedding photos!!! I dont cover my face in the tanning beds, i want a nice tan face. Dont wear a bra but wear panties cuz your **** will burn, your breasts may burn too so either deal with it or put a towel over the nipple part to help that. You can use the lotions but not necessary. You should always put on some regular lotion after tanning since it does dry your skin, that's why it helps with acne so well!!! Make sure you have your arms raised above your head for half the time too so that you dont get that weird coloring under your arm pits.

Happy wedding day to ya!!
Reply:Besides the fact that tanning beds age you really badly, they cause more freckles! I guess nobody told you this before, but if you already have a lot of freckles, do you really want to get even more? I am blonde with fair skin, and have never had freckles until I tanned for a summer. Now I have some on my nose and my shoulders.

Being very fair myself, I understand how frustrating it can be not to be tan. However, I recently tried the mystictan booth, where it sprays you for 60 seconds. The results are amazing, and last for a full week!!! Why don't you get that? Try a session now, so you don't wind up looking weird on your wedding day. But it should last through your honeymoon, and towards the end of your time in Jamaica, you will already be tan from the sun so the fading out of the spray tan won't make a difference.

Also, try Natural Glow lotion by Jergens. It gives a very even glow for fair skin...just don't get the one for fair skin, get the one for medium. You'll see results faster, but still very mild so that you can change your mind if it looks weird. Just remember to exfoliate before you put it on, and spread on lotion on your elbows, knees, hands, and feet prior. Good luck!!! And congrats on your wedding!!! =)
