Tanning bed preference??

i went tanning for the first time yesterday and plan on going again soon. I used the Montego Bay Stand-up tanning bed for 6 minutes (max time is 9) and really liked it (didnt get burnt at all!) should i stick with this tanning booth or try a bed-style one?? any preferences?
Tanning bed preference??
Try out another bed and see how you like it. Stick with what you prefer. If your tanning salon has a Bronzer Bed, (they will know what you are asking for if you say that) I would recommend trying that out to build a base tan. It gives you a decent tan without burning.

Also, use an indoor lotion when you tan, even if it's something you got at a drug store.
Tanning bed preference??
you will get skin cancer

dont do it
Reply:I know this isn't a popular answer, but you really should stick to self tanners and spray ons. I am an Esthetician, and you would not believe the things I have seen in my business. Everyone thinks that you can tan when you are young because your skin is so healthy and it will repair itself, but this is when most people do the damage that presents itself a little bit later. Tanning is one of the worst things you can do to your skin, and I guarantee you - you will regret it later.
Reply:try a tanning bed ... se which one you like best - or maybe alternate between the two.
Reply:I use both the regular and the stand up. I use the stand up mostly to even out my tan and the regular to maintain my color. I do not like the mega's because they get too hot and I don't like how much it makes me sweat! It is all just what you like and what works for your skin tone.

Happy Tanning!

Tanning lotion spray for indoor tanning?

I was wondering can I use Banana boat tanning lotion spray at a tanning salon.
Tanning lotion spray for indoor tanning?
no, because it contains ingredients that will damage the acrylic!!!
Tanning lotion spray for indoor tanning?
I would recommend you buy tanning lotion from the salon. Those tanning lotions will give you a better tan because they are for indoor tanning. And of course the more expensive the better!

Tanning help?

Hi! I have a suggetstion Try Maui Island Secret brownign formula..they do have some with SPF others are just for tanning. I tried it for the first time last June in St.Croix, and I got really really tan, random people were telling me I shouldn't tan anymore because I had gotten so dark :) So It works...you can find it online at there site or you can also buy the tanning lotion on ebay. It works great, the lotions are all natural ingrediants

"Browning Formula - 8 OZ.Promotes the Fastest, Darkest, Most Long-Lasting Tan with an amazing short time in any sun. Pure and Clean with No Sticky Residue! Our Secret Browning Formula is the ideal way to achieve a fast natural tan like the locals of Maui with minimal exposure to the sun.

This is not a dye, stain, or any type of skin colorant. Rather, we use local natural ingredients to prepare Maui Island Secret. The result is a browning formula that uses the power of the sun to achieve a safe, even tan that will last for weeks. "

YOU WILL LOVE THIS STUFF if you want a nice dark tan that doesn't looko fake and orange :) Hope I was able to help!

Tanning Beds & Airbrush Tanning?

how much does going into a tanning bed cost?

how much does airbrush tanning cost and where can i get one?
Tanning Beds %26amp; Airbrush Tanning?
Most tans are about $10-20 and airbrush tanning is more expensive than that. Honestly, just look up tanning salon in your phone book and you should find tons.
Tanning Beds %26amp; Airbrush Tanning?
u should just get airbrush cuz tanning beds give u cancer but or u can get the lotion those work really good and r only like 7 dollars at walmart
Reply:Hello!!!! can you say CANCER???
Reply:try a mystic tan..they are awesome, i know a lot of people who got one (so did i) and it turned out really nice, and you dont have to worry about nasty tanning beds and getting cancer! ...its not too expensive i forget what i paid though

Tanning okay???

i am not posotive if i am pregnant but just incase i am doing everything to take care of my body. but i was wondering just incase i am is it okay to go tanning in a tanning bed?? or should i stay away from that??? and yes i know tanning is not good for my body i dont usually go my mom just wants me to go with her but she doesnt know if its okay either.
Tanning okay???
I would think a little sun would be fine. But absolutely NO beds! Also know that anything that you put on your skin might cross the placenta.

Also a pregnant woman's skin is different than before she got pregnant.

I would never put my baby into a tanning bed.
Tanning okay???
it will be fine, but when you start to show they will not let you go without a doctors note, my doctor gave me one and i put a hand towel on my belly, that is why i know it is ok

mother to five healthy kids
Reply:I would wait. Raising you core temperature, like getting in a hot tub over 105, which a tanning bed does can cause birth defects. This is especially important during your first trimester!!!!!Take the alternative and find a pool to tan next to, that you can dip yourself in the cool water to prevent this. Go get a mystic tan, or self tanner which is perfectly safe just incase, and get yourself a good prenatal vitamin and DHA supplement. Always better safe then sorry for the rest of your life if you might be pregnant.
Reply:I took a test first. It was positive, so no tanning for me this summer. My doctor said only outdoor tanning. Just take a test.
Reply:no u dont need to get in the tanning bed when your pregnant
Reply:It is very bad. I like to tan myself and have had to start doing the tan in a bottle. I get it at Sallys beauty its called tanwise and looks as real at the sun :).

Tanning beds tan you from the inside out so you can imagine what it will do to your baby. Thats why they are bad for you always.
Reply:no u shuldn't do it. That can cause skin cancer.
Reply:my doctor told me I couldnt go tanning because that raises the mothers body temp and if it gets too high it can cause birth defects for the baby if its temp gets too high.

Tanning beds...?

What's the best way to lay in a tanning bed? I've been going just over a month and my legs, arms, and sides of my stomach aren't getting as tan. I've been using the stand ups more frequently, but my tan still isn't even. I've tried the tingle lotions as well, but my skin is sensitive and has reactions to the tingle. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Tanning beds...?
Hey baby! I have a tanning bed and tan often myself (obviously, haha). So here's my advice: First off, your stomach is the area of your body that tans the easiest. Your sides, underarms/breast crease area, and legs are the most difficult. I lay 1/4 the time on my back with arms at my side; 1/4 the time on my back with arms up; 1/4 on each side with arms up (uncomfortable, but it tans that spot where your breast wants to slide over when you're on your back. Not sure if you have this problem but I'm a 34FF and do). With this combination I've been able to achieve a line-less tan. Well, except for the little one between my **** and the top of my thighs but I have a solution in mind for that as well! If I were you, I would wear a tank top the next few times you go. That way your stomach will be covered and you can give your legs/sides/arms time to catch up with your stomach.

As far as the lotions go, it doesn't sound like you're tolerating the tingle well at all. It's *definitely* not for everyone, so you're not alone there at all. The lotions with bronzers are cool if you tan in the morning/afternoon but if you tan at night when you're going straight home they're kind of a waste since no one will see your instantly bronzed look. I don't know what your price range is, but if it's high John Abate %26amp; Designer Skin offer some *wonderful* lotions ($35-60, halfprice of that online). Emerald Bay is a company that I'm in love with their products. They have a line of about 10-12 lotions that are all very reasonably priced yet still do what they're supposed to. You can find them online on discount lotion sites for $9.99 a bottle. I would try one just plain accelerator (I use Tan 'n Tonic but Malibu Mimosa smells yummy too), a bronzer one for if you're tanning in the morning/afternoon (I use Bronzing Blizzard; it actually does the opposite of a tingle, gives you a nice cooling sensation all over but not at all overpowering, plus the bronzing benefit and the smell is nice). Bottled Blonde is regular accelerator (no tingle or anything) with some shimmer to it. Oh, did I mention all these Emerald Bay products come with a cute little keychain attached to the bottles? Check out: http://www.lotioncentral.com/Emerald_Bay... for the lotions.

And PLEASE feel free to email me if you have any more questions or need any advice from a veteran tanner. Best of luck to you gorgeous!
Tanning beds...?
Most people I know lie on their backs. The way the lights are set up in tanning beds you're guaranteed an even tan. It could be possible however that some pigmentation in your skin could be causing your uneven tan. It's in your genetics, and there's really nothing that can be done about it. The only thing would be to enhance your natural skin color by using certain over the counter lotions. (Not the fake tans, I forget what they're called though).

Tanning Question..?

If you are pale and you always burn, not tan, can you use a tanning lotion (NOT the sunless kind) and get a tan?

be specific, please.
Tanning Question..?
usually not
Tanning Question..?
Probbaly not, because oils are what are suppost to attract the UV rays to your body, and when you burn yourself without that oil...

no, there isn't.

Have you tried sunblock, so you don't get burned?

Otherwise I would suggest making sure you don't stay in the sun too long, or on one side of your body for too long.
Reply:i think there is but if you want to get a tan don't go outside for 2 hours in 100 degree weather. Stay in the sun like for 15 min. for one day then do another 15. min. the next day and keep doing that until u are satisfied. try doing it in the sunniest place in your back yard.
Reply:Sure, if you want melanoma.

Do you use the sunless kind ever? I love the L'oreal sublime glow.
Reply:um yes u can...my mom is asian and she is WHITE well b4 she was..she tried MANY times to get a tan but never worked..but she did use the tanning lotion and u can tell a difference...wut i would suggest is mixing tanning lotion with sunblock =) *i do it*

Reply:If your don't ever tan from being out in the sun, no lotion is going to make you get a natural tan.

I'm assuming you probably have light hair/eyes?

Most likely your genetics just don't allow your skin cells to produce much melanin. Your skin cells have enzymes called melaninocytes that synthesize and produce melanin in response to ultraviolet radiation (i.e. sunlight, or that from tanning beds). When more melanin is produced when people spend time in the sun, they get a tan. People with darker skin have more melaninocytes than people with lighter skin. If you don't have many copies of the gene that codes for melaninocytes, your skin cells can't produce melanin fast enough to absorb the excess light and protect your skin, which leads to skin damage and possibly cancer.

The best option is for you to stick with sunless tanners that contain DHA. (that's what's in most sunless lotions and also the mystic tanning booths). DHA changes the configuration of proteins in your skin that makes them appear darker, thus giving the appearance of having a tan.

Tanning with banana boat outside....?

ok so, i recently left a post asking how good banana boat dark tanning lotion (4spf) works...and now i am asking how long will it take for me to see results even a lil tint. its has only been 2 days...and today was my second day..on the first day i did 30 mins on each side which is an hr total..i did it during the most dangerous times lol...but anyways i was also wondering, are u suppose to sweating profusely because i was..but today i just did 15 mins on each side cuz i was just too hot. is 15 mins on each side good enuff for me to get a tan or even a lil tint if i keep doing each daY?...i still have my farmers tan so...
Tanning with banana boat outside....?
When using products like that it is best to use them when you swim. I have used Banana Boat tanner+sunscreen and I got so dark one summer people thought I was black. I actually didn't get "black" but that goes to show I got super dark!
Tanning with banana boat outside....?
You are tanning outside? Depends on the temp and you are already aware of the times it sound like. I was out all day in 33 to 37 Celcius with sunscreen though. I think 30 is plenty to get some kind of tan. Really depends on the person. You don't want to be out there more than that without sunscreen.

I think if you do 15min you should notice in about 5 days.

Tanning help?

ok, so i go surfing alot, but lately i haven't put on sunscreen (i know, i dont need lectures) now i have all these pale or darker spots on my arms from peeling skin. my friend eric had the same thing, and his mom said to put tanning lotion on it, and it worked! it evened out his skin tone.

I am wanting to tan and need a good tanning lotion. Is Spellbound a good lotion?

Is Spellbound a good lotion. I am using Smolder and it is really good. Can anyone reccommend another good lotion. I do like tingle with bronzer. Someone was telling me that Spellbound is the #1 tanning lotion right now. Any tips for tanning. Also, would it be okay to use Jergens Natural glow after I tan or will it mess my tan up. Open to any suggestions on tanning. Want to speed the process up. Thanks

Tanning after pregnancy effect skin elasticity?

Im 31 weeks... white as my walls and am dying to start tanning again after I have the baby but I was just told by someone that since my belly will be so streched out that I shouldnt tan till I lose the baby weight bc tanning will make my skin less elastic. Is that true? Is it just bc it dries your skin? If so does that mean it wont make a difference as long you moisturize?
Tanning after pregnancy effect skin elasticity?
I would "spray tan". Less damage to your skin with a healthy glow. Do you seriously want to look like an old mom?? :) Definitely watch the elasticity, when your skin tans it's your skin mutating to protect itself against the harmful rays.

If your skin just was stretched out--it might be less likely to recover (stretch marks!).

Good luck!
Tanning after pregnancy effect skin elasticity?
I have heard both sides.. that it is good for you and bad! But I would say that if you think logically about it, it would be a good thing! Just make sure you stay moisturized! The light in the tanning booths mimic the sun, you still get the same vitamins from them that rejuvenate the skin! Good Luck!
Reply:I tanned pretty quickly after having my child and I do not think it effected my elasticity. Just make sure you moisturize before and after. If you are worried about it try a spray tan or self tanner. Aveeno has a good one out right now!
Reply:Tanning makes your skin less elastic period. Doesn't matter if you just had a baby or not. I've seen many 50 and 60 year old women only to find out that they were only in their 40s. It will catch up with you.

Tanning outside?

can i use vegitable oil when i go tanning outside?

will that get me a faster tan? if so, how long should

i stay out in the sun without being burnt?

and, what about regular lotion?

any home recedmys to get a faster tan?
Tanning outside?
Sure a faster tan, a faster burn, faster wrinkles, and faster cancer! You should never tan w/o some sort of SFP!
Tanning outside?
I'm not sure about veggie oil, you'll just burn. Have you tried indoor tanning lotions? I use them and really like them plus you don't get all sweaty while waiting to tan
Reply:Why don't you use some self tanner if you want to look tan? You will age prematurely (look 50 when you are 30) if you do this to your skin. You will also greatly increase your risk of skin cancer. Wear sunblock.
Reply:Do not use vegetable oil. You will get terrible burns and clog your pores. Use tanning lotion that comes with bronzers. Do not use indoor tanning lotion for outdoor tanning. You can also try baby oil. Don't stay out too long or you will burn.
Reply:okay dont listen to these people who are telling you that you shouldnt tan because i know its not what you want to hear and there not even ansewring the question.

soo ya.

dont use veggie oil you are supposed to use baby oil.

i would reccomend using hawaiin tropic tanning oil tho.

you have less of a chance of getting burnt.

stay out for about 2 hours and reappply the tanning oil alot so you dont get burnt. it can get hott just sitting out there so bring some water. it can also get boring so bring your ipod or something to do.
Reply:OMG u r a trip to the emergency room waiting to happen.

What is vegetable oil usually used for? Score one for you--yes, COOKING AND FRYING get a clue?

There are no home r-e-m-e-d-i-e-s to make you darker.

If you haven't been in the sun in a long time, you could start burning in as little as 15 minutes. Can you say COME ON IN SKIN CANCER! Have you been under a rock? I am truly shocked that someone in this day and age would even consider such a stupid thing. With so much information out there you should know better. You could soak in a tub of strong tea and dye yourself (better tell you I'm kidding) or maybe there is someplace, somewhere that does a spray on tan. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE AND YOUR TAN IS INSTANT! Please consider what a product is meant to do before you really do some permanent damage to yourself.

Tanning lotion while pregnant?

I use a Dove product

It's not actually Tanning lotion

its natural skin lotion with some tanning cream in it

so you gradually get a tan with every application

Is it ok to use while pregnant?

Do you think it would make (if i get them) my stretch marks look worse?
Tanning lotion while pregnant?
Tanning Cream 鈥?Most researchers feel use of tanning creams during pregnancy is safe. Most stain the skin and thus don鈥檛 enter the bloodstream. They can also help boost your self esteem and help you feel glowy throughout your pregnancy. Some women find however that the smell of a tanning lotion is too overpowering during pregnancy, thus prefer not to use them for this reason alone.

Tanning lotion while pregnant?
It's just a surface dye, unless it says "ask a doctor if you are pregnant" I wouldn't worry too much. Just don't actually go tanning in the sun or in a tanning booth because that'd probably make your stretch marks look weird.
Reply:I asked my Dr. about tanning and she said just do not use the spray on tans, like those at the tanning salons, no booths, and don't lay in the sun too long. Stay cool. She did not say anything about not using those kinds of lotions, so I would think they are OK.

good luck!

Tanning lotion?

if i put tanning lotion on and then go out in the sun, will i still get a natural tan thru the fake tan?
Tanning lotion?
Yes, your skin will still produce melatonin which will stick around longer than self-tanning lotion.

HOWEVER: This is a very unhealthy plan! Many younger people think a "natural" tan is best. The first problem with this is skin cancer, which is the most serious danger, but even more immediate and definite is the fact that you can start looking like a leather handbag by the time you are in your 40s.

Self-tanning lotions today are not as orange and streaky as they once were, and a tan you have created yourself at home can look natural and attractive. Then, when it wears off, you won't have horribly damaged skin ticking like a timebomb.
Tanning lotion?
yea

TANNiNG HELP!!!!!!!!?

i tanned alot in a bed this summer

probably 20min a day 5 days a week

but now im all white again

itanned for 10min today and didnt burn so im gonna go back up to 20 tommrwo and tan every day till this friday

do u think i will look any darker by friday?!?

dont tell me tanning is bad mmk thanks!
TANNiNG HELP!!!!!!!!?
well honestly you shouldn't be going everyday, that is a little extreme. But, depending on how white you are will depend on if you will show any color by the end of the week. It usually takes a few weeks. The most I go is 3 times a week when I am first starting out, then I go down to 2 times a week to maintain a darker tan. Then Late summer I go down to once a week to just keep a little color but not be dark for the winter. It is better to maintain the color you want then to keep going and stopping.
TANNiNG HELP!!!!!!!!?
yeah to bad when u get skin cancer cause your using a tanning bed
Reply:wow everyday? that's a little extreme but yeah you will get darker
Reply:well if you dont burn and you go the rest of the week for 20 mins. you probably would be a little darker by friday

Tanning Lotion! Which is the best?

This summer I studied abroad in Spain, and got an awesome tan not even on purpose. I never realized how much I liked the look until then.

Now that winter is coming and I'm inside studying even more all the time, I don't have time to get my tan back naturally.

So I was wondering if anyone could recommend a really good self-tanning lotion or spray?

I want one that won't look blotchy or orangey, especially on my face, and preferably one that doesn't smell bad. Also, do you think a lotion or spray is better?

Any suggestions? Thanks! :)
Tanning Lotion! Which is the best?
I work at a tanning salon and we have the Spray Tan booth which is becoming very popular. It only takes 60 seconds and you're done. The machine sprays you so you're covered from head to toe, front to back, side to side and it looks great. I've done it many times. It is around 20 dollars a pop but sometimes you can get discounts buying them in bulk. (You can where I work). It usually lasts about a week or maybe a little bit longer as long as your skin is exfoliated when you go in.

If you don't want to spend that much money, I would opt for a spray. It's a more even application and you wont get the "streakyness" that you do from rubbing in a lotion. I would recommned "Sublime Bronze" by L'Oreal. It's about 10 dollars for the bottle.

Good luck fake baking!!

=)
Tanning Lotion! Which is the best?
the last summer I used the bananabolt lotion but it isnot to the face. I think there isnot self tanning to the face.
Reply:noutrogena build a tan is the most NATURAL looking...all my friends use it, i recomended it to them, we're all TAN now :)
Reply:For a longer, more noticeable tan use Fake Bake but for a more natural colour Johnsons and Dove are the best for building your tan gradually. Wear gloves when applying and tan ur hand by rubbing over ur legs after uv applied the lotion to them. Dont put the lotion direct on to hands or ul end up with orange knuckles.
Reply:loreal sublime bronze the gel one not the spray

Helpful hints for tanning?

I am going to start tanning for prom and I have never used the tanning beds before. My prom is May 6th. I tan fairly easy. I need to know how to get the best tan. And yes, I know it causes skin cancer but it's not like I can go stand outside and get a tan. And I don't have the spray on kind available close to where I live.
Helpful hints for tanning?
Use a good lotion--I like Bronze Bondage or the California Tan lotions. Moisturize often--before and after tanning, after showering, and whenever your skin feels dry. Start out tanning slow, increase 2 minutes every 2 times you tan. Tan every 48 hours, not everyday.

Have fun at prom! ;0)
Helpful hints for tanning?
Move to Arizona
Reply:don't
Reply:just do 10 minutes at first then go higher after that
Reply:Get a self tanning oustrizer- it'll slightly tan your skin each day of use (i'd say about 1-2 weeks and your at a faily nice tan) But that's my experience with Jerkins, so i'd reccommend that.

Tanning beds aren't too safe, and neither is sun exposure, there are self tanners you can use (like spray on) that don't look bad (some better than tanning beds) So get a few diffrent ones and try them out

(DON'T do any the day before or the day of Prom unless your SURE it works, otherwise you could end up looking like an umpa-lumpa on Prom day =D ) Bath and Body works has a great spray on skin tan line- if you REALLY want a tan and still can't find anything order some off the internet, or go out of town for a day.

Good Luck
Reply:u DO NOT want to get cancer from tanning beds!!!

What u should do is not tan at all, even if prom is coming up. U should make do with your own skin color.

Bottom line: Tanning beds need u to pay for each job, it's like paying ur way toward cancer

Tanning...14 years old....?

ok so im 14 %26amp; i have fair skin. of coarse over the summer i get tan. but the problem is in fall/spring/winter. i have tried that jergans lotion it leaves me orange and spots everywhere. my mom doesnt want me to go to a tanning bed and i want to geta spray on tan but idk how much it costs.. help please
Tanning...14 years old....?
I would use a bath and body works gradual tanner...I have the same problem as you...lol! I recently did a report on tanning beds and im glad you chose not to go to one...(im also the same age as you...so i know how embaressing it is to go to school with orange skin...trust me on this...lol) well, I use their gradual tanner from their "Breathe" line. It doesn't tan very much the first few times you use it, but if you use it every day you'll see a change! And as a plus, it doesn't turn your skin bright orange! =D

ciao for now,

Tara
Tanning...14 years old....?
You really need to take care of your skin now while you are young. You should be wearing sunscreen all the time and stay away from tanning beds.

The spray on tans range in price, you will need to call around in your area and get quotes.

If you are using self tanner you need to make sure you exfoliating before you put it on.
Reply:Why do you have to be tan in the winter, its normal not to be tan. Plus you are 14 you should be worried about tanning.
Reply:You're 14!!!!! Don't worry about it!!!!! Believe it or not... not all guys like tan girls.
Reply:i'm 16 and i want to be really tan... i use olay touch of sun. everything else i've used makes me REALLY blotchy and orange. but this stuff works.
Reply:tanning expert here. As for spray tans i would reccommend the mystic tan. It is polarized to stick only to your skin and doesn't look orange. they run about $25 to $30 per session and last a week. if you do try something else and get spotty a little lemon juice should take it right out. . As for tanning beds Being that young for you to tan in a tanning bed your mom will have to sign a consent form. Being of fair skin you never want to start at more than 5 minutes. less if the bed is high power. I would reccommend covering you face everyother time if not every time as well and never use tingle lotions. Other than that if you don't go to often youre probably safe--if you can convince your mom. another idea is to get a base of color in a tanning bed and keep it up with the lotion or spray tan. That should only take about 10 tanning bed sessions
Reply:Is it really necessary to have a fake orange tan? If you like that look then sure try the spray tan bit but I agree with your mother that you should avoid the tanning bed. As someone else pointed out it is imperative that you protect your skin now and tanning beds are not the way to go. It is summer time now how about putting on some spf30 and sitting outside for a bit for some natural sun/color. I wouldn't worry too much about the fall and winter no one really cares.
Reply:do not go to a tanning bed it is not good for anyone try to find another brand of self tanner lotion or spray on tan that works for u
Reply:Well, tanning in a tanning bed isn't very good for you anyway.

Moreover, you should respect your mother's wishes.

I'm 14 (very soon to be 15), and I have been in a tanning bed. But if you aren't careful, they can sunburn you just as easily (sometimes even quicker) than the sun itself.

So really, I think the natural sun is much better for you than a bed. =)
Reply:I lovew spray-on because they are safer and better for you than tanning beds. In the months where people aren't normally tan though, be careful not to make yourself look too tan, or you'll look fake. It depends on where you go and if you become a member there, but I pay around $50 for mine as a non-member of my place. The prices range from like $20-130 at various places. I also reccomend using tanning sunblock and laying out. It helps make you tan, but you're still protected from cancer and sunburn!
Reply:I don't see anyone answering your question

BUT I will try

I used 30 min with no significant improvement.

I have seen the spray ??? I was not impressed

You can sun Tan anytime,, use a low # spf and strictly time you self . a burn is devastating.

If you push the amount you can take you may have to start all over after you peal.

i have the same problem, but im basically still pale, i really dont care, but you can try to put on some sunscreen and go out into the sun so you wont burn, but dont put on sunblock, because then you wont even get a tan!
Reply:Tanning beds are the beds of the devil! If you make your bed in a tanning salon you are going to have to lie in it i.e. cancer! I also have fair skin and you can suck it!
Reply:just lay out in the sun, and start off w/ 30 spf suntan lotion. Once you get a base tan, work your way up to 15 spf, and then to 8 spf once you have a pretty good tan goin on.

you can also use tanning oil.

Laying out is safer than tanning beds, because UVA rays come from the sun, and they are blocked by sunscreen. Tanning beds emit UVB rays, and these in my opinion are more dangerous, plus they can't be blocked by many sunscreens.

also, go to weather.com and put in your area code. It will give you a forecast of your area, and include a UV index (which is on a scale of 1-10). You can try to get out on days that don't have a very high UV concentration.
Reply:Try dove holiday tan, its like a moisturiser with tanning lotion in it, it gradually builds every time you apply and is really light the first time you use it, i suggest using this every 3-4 days :)
Reply:I guess it just boils down to whether you would rather be tan or have skin cancer. If you are pale, you are the LAST person who should tan! In a booth, or at the beach! The truth is, skin cancer can lead to even more SERIOUS cancer! IT SPREADS!!! I KNOW that you want color, I GLOW IN THE DARK I'm so pale!!!! I want color too, but I wear 30 all of the time and still get burned! Don't worry about superficial things like tanning if it could harm your life! Why worry about a tan that could COST you your life????
Reply:there is no safe way to tan in the sun or tanning booth...this is true for everybody but ESPECIALLY for a fair skin-ed beauty like you! You will just go to the front of the line for skin cancer. I used tanning beds to help winter depression...usually once a week and I got a dark beach tan for a few years; I started getting lots of those dark spots (age spots). I'm not as pale as you but burn easily. You should look into the stuff they spray on you; I think it's the only thing that's safe,

Tanning beds?

How bad are tanning beds, I mean really?? I know women who have tanned their whole lives and look fine and do not have skin cancer....so why do they say that they are so bad? I want to start tanning again, but I always get worried I'll get skin cancer.
Tanning beds?
Just take your time and don't go like everyday. I go once a week and I'm fine. I know it will increase my chances of getting skin cancer but that won't happen until later in life and when I'm old I won't care what I look like. Don't do the mystic tan because you'll look orange. Just go to the tanning bed in moderation and you'll be fine.
Tanning beds?
You will have a bigger risk of skin cancer if you tan excessively. While tanning only a few times is not good for your skin it most likely will not badly harm it -- though it may dry it out.

Tanning also ages the skin.
Reply:tan in moderation...yes, if you tan each and every day there is a large risk that you wil acquire skin cancer. However, if you tan moderately (1 or 2 times a week of not less) there is less of a chance. Tanning is proven to lessen depression and help skin problems. You just have to know your limit. When you do tan outdoors, make sure to use an SPF.
Reply:Try not to do it sooooo much and I think you'll be okay for now
Reply:Definitely use the tanning beds in moderation. Personally, I don't think they are worth the risk Why don't you just get mystic tan? That is what I do through the summer. You can also get fake tanning lotion applied at a salon. You'll look great without damaging your skin!
Reply:no there not bad my sister goes and so does my mom and they are just fine .you can get skin cancer if you dont have any protection and your at more of a riskwith out it ... but the sun is good for you thats why there are tanning beds to manipulte sun.. it also depends on the kind of skin you have...if you have reel reely bad skin then my opinion is that you are more at risk than others...
Reply:dont use tanning beds...i you MUST tan just go ouside...tanning beds are much worse and its stupid, they cause skin cancer then going to the beach and tanning and tanning makes your skin be wrinkled when your older becuse it breaks down/kills layers of skin
Reply:If you want to use a tanning bed, you are at risk of getting skin cancer. There is a higher percentage of people who dont get skin cancer, but you dont want to be in the percent of people that do get it. It's your decision. If you really want a tan, consider a self tanner or a spray on tan.
Reply:Just because they dont have cancer now does not mean they wont have it tomorrow or the next day. And then by the time u are 60 ur skin will look like a shriveled up apricot that nothing can do to help it. You could eventually get brain cancer or a tumor. Tanning beds are just gross
Reply:They're bad. Even minimal exposure in tanning beds increases you chances of getting skin cancer by about 7 times. Also, they age you REALLY fast. I tanned to try to get a little color for my wedding and I can seriously see the effects it had, even though it was only a few times. You will definitely notice more lines on your face and more uneven skin if you tan.
Reply:i go tanning about once every day during the month..the next month i usually take a break from tanning to give my skin a break...it really depends on ur skin type! :]
Reply:one tenning bed session= 8 hours lying out on the beach, unprotected.

this is becuase instead of the suns spread out rays, tanning beads are concentrated UV rays, which cause cancer. They age you faster then time and cigerattes combined. And do you really want the wrinkles, sunspots that come along with it? The tan doesnt last forever, and can you spell c-a-n-c-e-r? Its definitly not one of the smartest decisions you can make, instead, get a spray -on tan. It has all the pro's and none of the con's.
Reply:who cares about the health risks. they are fake and give you a totally fake looking tan. I can spot a fake bake a mile away.

Tanning in a salon -- help?!?

i'm going to try a tanning bed at a salon for the first time. I'm type 2 skin - minimally tans, easily burns, can anyone reccomend a good bed and lotion to start with to prevent burning?? any good tips for tanning??
Tanning in a salon -- help?!?
Since it is your very first time going to a tanning salon, I would go in for only 10 minutes. I know it seems like a waste and like it might not make a difference, but because it's your first time and you burn easily, it's important to develop a base tan first. I would go with a standard, regular bed and use any lotion that has a decent spf in it (do NOT use oil, because they ruin the tanning beds) and avoid any kind of lotion that has special tinglers because that could cause your body to turn red (it happened to my sister who has the same skin type as you). So yeah try 10 minutes for your first time, then as you continue to make trips to the salon, SLOWLY increase the time. Maybe go with 10 minutes a couple times and then if your skin is okay jump up for 12-13, then later on go for 15.. and if you're still okay, go for 20. Remember though that the people that work at the tanning salon will give you great advice on protecting your type of skin, so it'd be a good idea to ask them which specific lotion you should buy, which bed, etc. Basically, let them know about your skin so they give you the proper service. Good luck, happy tanning!
Tanning in a salon -- help?!?
use an accelerator lotion no tingle factor and if you get hot get out it usuallt means you are burning
Reply:DO NOT TAN FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES FOR THE FIRST TIME. As for the tanning lotion try Banana Boat SPF 8 tanning oil. Do not get the bronzer content unless you like the umpa lumpa look.
Reply:Yes. DON't do it. Skin cancer is the main reason - look up the information before doing it. If you are burning then the machine is set to high. Be happy with what you have - it's better than developing cancer later.
Reply:Tanning just like being out in the sun causes skin problems. One problem is in a few years from now you will start to look a lot older than you really are. If you are looking to get a tan and don't want all the health risks that come with it just get some of those lotions they have out now that can make your skin be tan or try tanning sprays.
Reply:I would recommend that you not even tan for 10 minutes. I am type 2 skin as well, and with the powerful beds they have out there now, I literally would start with around 6-7 minutes, and then build my way up from there. If you start out slow, then there really isn't a need for a tanning lotion, unless you want to completely protect an area from exposure. In addition, my skin is a bit sensitive before I've built up a tan, so I have to make sure I don't have skin moisturizers on because they sometimes react to the rays and cause a skin irritation.
Reply:Well, if you know the risks, then you're pretty stupid and hardheaded. If my pack of cigarettes come with a damn cancer warning, so should a tanning booth. I think tanning booths should be banned, since they seem to attract ignorant girls like moths to a flame.

By the way, A LOT of guys hate tans! You can tell when someone has a booth tan, it doesn't look good, and sometimes you'll look just as orange from a booth as you would from cheap self-tanner. Compare Nicole Kidman to Paris Hilton and tell me whose skin looks better. NICOLE'S!
Reply:Remember to start out with an entry level bed, most importantly. Also, go for about 4-6 minutes. No longer! Once you can tan without turning pink, you can increase your time in 1-2 minute intervals.

California Tan makes great Level 1 base tan building products. Using an intense moisturizer afterwards also helps.

Good luck!

Tanning beds?

i go to tanning beds only before vacation so i dont burn...and i have an easy time getting a base tan...but my face never does...i have tried face tanning lotion but none have worked;..any suggestions..i hate being on vacation in the sun with a red face...
Tanning beds?
Memphis Kitten... do us a favor and shut up...

what i usually do is i cover my face with a towel half of the time i am in the tanning bed, then i get a tinted moisturizer that matches my tan. Try going in to tan with absolutely no makeup on... like wash your face RIGHT before, your makeup may be blocking the rays. Try talking to someone who works in the salon to get their recomendation
Tanning beds?
Try the self tanners, I love Jergen's. But they won't keep you from burning, so you'd need to keep your face protected from the sun. At least this way you could have some color on your face. You'd have a "safe tan" and just wear a hat to protect your face.
Reply:hae you tried using a tan accelerator just on the face? Salons are full of products to help you tan.

Tanning oil?

laidies i am a 16 year old male and im going to the beach tommorow i was wandering if guys use tanning oil and also how it works is it stuff you just rub into your skin that is the color of tanned skin or is it that and does it like bake it into your skin lol or does it just give you a great tan please help laides...much love...ryan
Tanning oil?
dont use tanning oil! it has very little SPF in it so it doesnt protect your skin at all from sun damage and you will have an elevated risk for skin cancer.
Tanning oil?
There are many products and many choices. Firstly, you will not get a tan tomorrow unless you stop at the drug store first and buy some SELF-TANNING sun cream. With this product you can get a tan without the sun. It has to be applied carefully or you will get streaks. OR, you can get a natural tan but that takes weeks depending on your skin type. If you are fair skinned, it can take months. Think about cancer and not just beauty. You don't want to burn, so best to buy a product with the number 25 or higher on the front. HAVE FUN.
Reply:Tanning oil douse noting to protect you from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun with cause skin cancer, wrinkles, and aged looking skin. Use a sun screen with UVA and UVB protection. Think about your health and well being.
Reply:ok ok the EXPERT in tanning:] tanning oil works great but you rub it on and stay in the sun and it helps make you tan unless you get the tanning stuff that has instant bronzer. i love Hawaiian Tropic the original like coconut smell or the spray works good too. if you dont like the oil feeling you can get the dry oil sray,

HAPPY TANNING :]

Tanning and Depression?

Hi everybody. I have bipolar pretty severely, and it's always far worse in winter than in summer. I was wondering if going to a tanning bed would help at all? I'm pretty fair complected so I don't tan normally, even in summer I don't lay out. But I'm curious if light tanning maybe once a week would help with my depression?

Thanks!
Tanning and Depression?
No. Tanning beds ruin skin. You are thinking of a light box for SAD, which is not the same light as tanning beds. That is safe, it is like natural sunlight and will help your mood.

Also, try taking vitamin D and calcium, sit outside in the sun for about 15 minutes a day, even if it's just your face. Watch what you eat, carbs can really make it worse (breads, etc.), and no sugary foods (sugar is a depressant as is alcohol).
Tanning and Depression?
going Tanning definitely helps! trust me!
Reply:Bipolar can be treated with therapy not by tanning.
Reply:Only for a couple of years. Then the depression will settle in again as you go to the dermatologist every 6 months or so to get the skin lesions either frozen, burned or cut off.
Reply:yes having a tan will cheer you up ..that's for sure...but use the creams not the tanning beds....there are some sophisticated tanning lotions about
Reply:oh please please don't go into a tanning bed. it will make you a lot more depressed when you have skin cancer. do you want to be a wrinkly old bag when you're 40?
Reply:I am not too sure if tanning will help or not, what I know does help is getting a full spectrum lamp.. it is actually normal to get like that in the winter! Tanning may help, I just am not too sure.
Reply:I wouldn't do that. Tanning beds are very bad for your skin health. Maybe find other ways to combat your weather-induced depression....turning on bright lights, lighting a fireplace, burning a candle....etc.
Reply:S.A.D. is from the lack of sunlight in the winter there is less %26amp; you generally stay in more.

A friend has arthritis real bad %26amp; tanns in tanning salon %26amp; says it is good not only for pain but for the SAD disorder as well.
Reply:You need to check with your health practitioner to see if you have Seasonal Affective Disorder. If you do, the tanning might help. But why expose yourself to skin cancer without knowing why you're doing it? :) Good luck! :)
Reply:Give it a go, it's not like its gonna get any worse!
Reply:Why don't you try it? I can't possibly hurt! I hope you feel better. Take a good friend with you. It is important to have a good friend you can confide in and share your feelings with!

Good luck to you!
Reply:It helps but there are better ways. Light boxes(light therapy) is a better way. It's no more expensive than tanning sessions and much better for your skin.
Reply:I hope you are seeing someone for this. A good MD/ Psych can help you a lot.
Reply:tanning is great for anyone whether it's from the sun or the tsnning booth. don't forget to cover up your scamper so it doesn't get sunburnt. why not send me a pic of you and your tan so i can see how terrific it looks on you?
Reply:I'd say that a special 'light box' would be better for you. Sounds to me like you have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

They're not sun beds, but they stimulate natural sunlight. Have one on by your desk and one by your bedside table for at least an hour a day.

I'm not sure where you live, though. I've got results for sun lamps from the UK
Reply:Why do you think that by getting a tan will help you with your depression?
Reply:Being in the UVA and UVB rays weither it is in a tanning bed or out in the natural sun helps you process Vitamin D, which helps process a hormone that regulates depression. Not getting enough of these *rays* makes for a lower level of this hormone, leading to depression.

Tanning lotion will not help. Try sitting near sunny windows or even buying one of those desk lamps that give off UVA/UVB rays. This will perk you up alittle.

If the depression persists, you should see your physician.
Reply:It should help with the seasonal depression. They actually make special lights that you can have in your home to help with seasonal depression. mine comes in the summer (very rare), so I know how hard it is. I wish you the best of luck.
Reply:It does. Anything that stimulates your melanocytes will make your pituitary gland increase the amount of endorphins in your bloodstream.

HOWEVER, tanning beds and tanning lamps and pretty much any kind of exposure to those amounts of UV radiation, cause skin cancer.

So maybe you麓ll be happy this winter but not ten years from now when you have to undergo chemotherapy and all your hair falls off. I don麓t know about you, but for me, even all the endorphins and Vitamin D in the world aren麓t worth going bald for.

If you麓re bipolar you should just take Prozac. Ask a doctor, they麓ll tell you the same.
Reply:I've heard that to i have bi-polar to and i have not heard that about vitamin d i do take vitamin b-12 it helps with the nervous system i can take about 5 a day if i need it i like a more natural approach medicine makes me groggy and i don't like the way it makes me feel.

Tanning for me?

I am really pale. I don't tan in the sun, just burn. Well, prom is coming in may. What can i do at the tanning salon to get a tan? techniques? WORKING lotion? PLEASE HELP!
Tanning for me?
try a really good fake tan product like st tropez bronzing mist. i would reccomend it as it is tinted as you apply it so you can see where you are putting it on. remember to exfoliate first though so it doesnt go streaky or patchy. or if you can afford it i would definately reccomend getting a spray tan at a salon because youll get a really nice tan from it and it should last about 5 days, which is a bit longer than if you do it at home. hope this helps : )

Whats worse Sun Tanning or laying in a Tanning Bed?

Iv'e allways wanted to know so I can get a really awsome Tan I know all tans are bad but you only live once...

but i want to kow Tannig bed or sun tanning? I have tried spray on tan but It lasts about 1 week I want a real one

Help me please...鈾?br>Whats worse Sun Tanning or laying in a Tanning Bed?
tanning bed is worse.
Whats worse Sun Tanning or laying in a Tanning Bed?
id say tanning bed because its pouring directly on you and you can put at least a little sunscreen on and still get a tan if you are outside
Reply:a tanning bed is actually better because you can control the amount of rays going into your body.
Reply:tanning beds are way worse!!!!!!!!!! you should wear lots of sunscreen and sun tan and that'll be ok
Reply:i think the tanning beds are worse, sometimes the sun can be good for you! anything that turns you tanner in 10 minutes is probably not good
Reply:taning bed is way worse. but i dont suggest sun tanning either. tanning alone is bad. dont bother.
Reply:It depends, if you are just laying in the sun for a bit to get a shade, tanning beds are worse, but if you are out in the sun for long periods of time the sun can potentionaly be more dangerous
Reply:Well tanning isnt the best, period. I'm sure you already know the dangers so me listing them isnt going to detour you from doing it anyway :] I would suggest tanning in a bed. Its better actually because its in a controlled environment and you can start out on a lower time and work your way up. You never know the intensity of the sun on any given day so you could get severely burnt. Also, if you do plan on tanning in a bed, always ALWAYS use tanning lotion! It speeds up your tan, keeps it longer, and helps keep your skin moisturized so it will stay nice n' soft!
Reply:None

it's called skin cancer

and plus tanning is gross and ruins your skin

fine if you want to look forty at twenty
Reply:Both bad. Sorry but that's the truth. Protect your skin while you are young. Use sunblock and moisturizers, and keep it clean. And, don't smoke. Smoking causes facial wrinkling and premature aging second only to prolonged unprotected exposure to the sun. (Ever see those ladies with the wrinkles on the upper lip, between the lip and the nose? Cigarettes.) Take care of your skin now, and you will be very glad you did, later.
Reply:a booth isn't great but it's still better than the sun
Reply:Tanning bed is way worse...I think I was told that 20 minutes in a tanning bed is about 3 hours out in the sun.
Reply:Tanning Bed for sure. I don't know what country you live in but in Australia, there has a been alot of media coverage about this girl who got skin cancer after using tanning beds. She ended up dying a couple of weeks ago. Try using tanning sunscreen.
Reply:tanning bed is by far better then natural tanning (period). when you go to a salon the amount of UV you receive is regulated and carefully controlled. if you go to a reputable place you will never burn and end up with a great tan every time. natural tanning is imposable to regulate, thus you always wind up burnt. not to mention natural tanning is also time consuming and if you're like me... try getting a tan in NY in November lol!

Tanning for psoaisis?

i want to start tanning again to help my psoraisis. but my psoraisis is on my scalp and tanning and sun helped it a lot clear it up and stopped the itching. we dont have a lot of sun in alaska and its never even hot enough to clear it up. anyways i guess my question is should i start again and i guess is tanning bad for you?

note: please dont tell me to go to the doctor and have it checked, ive been there, payed thousands of dollars for medication that dont work. thanx
Tanning for psoaisis?
i dont know anything about psoriasis but when i was in bali my scalp got sunburnt and it peeled. it was one of the worst cases of sunburn ever. looked like i had dandruff. i dont get dandruff a lot but maybe once every 6 months i get it a little bit so i wash my hair with neutrogena t gel shampoo and i believe that also works for your condition.

as far as sun tanning, it is pretty bad, people die from skin cancer. this summer i think i am going to fake it because i dont want to get cancer.
Tanning for psoaisis?
my friend has this, and we are in the uk, they actually give her UVB treatment free here, its given by means of a high powered sunbed because the uvb rays are proven to help so much, she goes, 3 times a week for 6 weeks, so whilst tanning isnt usually recommended, in this case it would be
Reply:Exposing yourself to sunlight can cause skin cancer. I live in Australia and this is the skin cancer capital of the world because we have so much sunshine all year round.

Yes, doctors are not much good when it comes to problems like these.

Have you tried aloe vera gel? It might be worth a go ; get the 100% pure gel. It will be perfecly clear...not green.

The other thing to try is emu oil whcih is readily available in the United States. Although it's main use is for arthritic joints, many people use it for just about everything.

I suggest these two things because they are very cheap so it won't cost you too much to given it a try.

Stay out of the sun.....skin cancer can kill you. Tanning salons are even more dangerous ; many people want them banned here altogether.
Reply:Yes i would recommend it it is easy for people to get on here and tell you try this and that but dont understand what living with psoraisis is like...IT'S HELL!!! I have excema which is a form of it just not as serious. My doctor advised me to go to the tanning bed but to use a high spf sunscreen while in there to protect myself from the burning and aging rays and skin cancer,,, I recommend trying that if you arent going strictly just to tan but to relieve some of your symptoms. Also while going i doubled up on my tar medication and if you have psoraisis you know what im talking about it it has been 4 months now and i am flake and scale free. I wish you the best of luck with this..

Tanning lotion?

Anyone use any of those gradual tanning lotions, like Jergens natural glow or Coppertones gradual tan? Anyone know if the results last even if you shower, or is it basically just a dark dye-like lotion like normal tanning creams that wash off?
Tanning lotion?
Jergens is the best to use! I have naturally fair skin in my face, and darker on my body. So Im kinda eeeek about using tanners. But! This **** realy works, lol! Ive only been using it for 9 days..and the difference is amazing. Its very natural looking, and dosnt have that weird, orange glow to it. I would suggest going a shade darker then your natural color. Otherwise its kinda sucky. lol. Also, make sure you wash your hands afterwards! It wont give you an incredily obvious disscoloration..but you can tell after a while. And make sure you wash up before you use it. Hope this helps, lemme know! :)
Tanning lotion?
the best tanning spray is neutrogeno micro mist

or

go to a celarium
Reply:I have the Jergens Natural Glow. No it doesn't come off like that when you shower. It lasts relatively well. You shouldn't exfoliate a lot though or that will make it fade faster. I love it though. But when you notice your skin getting lighter, it's time to re-apply.

Tanning Pills?

How does tanning pills work? What kind of tan tone do you get( like color)? What kind ofresults are typical and what is the best kind?

Im a realy fair and freckle easy without tanning and im try to find a way to stop it, ithink this might help?
Tanning Pills?
it boosts your melanin helping you tan quicker. you do have to go out in the sun or go to a tanning bed to get it to work though. its basically just vitamins. try protan theirs works well. i have problems tanning and i used theres to start and it works well. my doctors said they are safe just to not take them over a long period of time
Tanning Pills?
tanning pills????

um i never ever even seen anything like that and i would not tell any one to use it if it is called ''tanning pills''
Reply:I am pretty sure you should stay away from them. Try reading up on them beforehand. I actually think they are banned in quite a few countries because they are considered dangerous. If you really want to tan I would suggest purchasing a tanning lotion. You can look on www.drugstore.com to find different brands of tanning lotions alongside customer reviews.

Good luck!

Tanning lotion?

alright, so my friend thinks that tanning lotion and oils (such as Hawaiian Tropic) with an SPF of 4-6 actually attracts sunlight to your skin and moisturizes it in a way and makes it darker than tanning without lotion. I think, however, that calling it "tanning" lotion is just a way to market low SPF sunblock and does not actually make you darker. Who is right?
Tanning lotion?
lol tanning lotion doen not "attract" sunlight, thats silly. it is a low spf to help against getting burnt too bad and allowing you to get tan lol

Tanning lotion?

Is there any kind of tanning lotion you can use in a tanning bed that will still let you tan but protects you from harmful rays?
Tanning lotion?
I dont think so but tingle cream works amazing for making you even tanner
Tanning lotion?
Not that I am aware of, rays of any kind especially in a tanning bed are bad, bad, bad......try mystic tan...45-60 seconds 3 or 4 turns and you are tanned and cancer free!
Reply:get california tan lotion.

it helps you keep the tan longer. and protects you from harmful rays :)
Reply:Yes, I think there is such a product....but I dont know the name of it. They sell it at my local tanning salon, so they must sell it at your's as well.
Reply:Avoid the tanning bed and go for a spray tan, this way you don't have to worry about it.
Reply:Many lotions have a tanning effect, but also provide you with a SPF... check the labeling on the various products and you can find the rating for the SPF or ask the operator at your tanning salon.

Tan, tans, tanning?

how unhealthy is tanning?
Tan, tans, tanning?
Very. Get a Professional spray tan.Tanning bed's can cause skin cancer.
Tan, tans, tanning?
pretty unhealthy
Reply:Very unhealthy. Unless it's a spray tan (they have them at tanning places) or a tan you buy in a bottle!!
Reply:pretty unhealthy

it can give u cancer
Reply:depends if u know the right way

the right way is 20 minutes on each side
Reply:Extremely unhealthy. Go to a dermatologist and he will explain the reasons why you should not do it.
Reply:yes tanning is not a good thing because it can cause skin cancer, it makes you look older and gives you wrinkles. you have to use sunscreen and use it 15 minutes before you step out of the sun so that it becomes effective.
Reply:it's very unhealthy, it causes skin cancer %26amp; it also makes your skin age prematurely (so you'll be all wrinkly at a younger age). If you tan in the sun it isn't as bad as the beds BUT the same risks still apply, but the sun also gives you vitiamins(just don't stay out in it long). The safest way to tan is to get a professional spray on tan.

Reply:It's only gets overwhelmingly unhealthy if u do it like, a LOT!
Reply:It depends. You need sunlight to survive because thats where you get a lot of vitamins (like Vitamin D). So it is healthy to get a little bit of sun every day. However, frying in a tanning bed for 20 min everyday is taking it WAY to far! Excessive tanning increases your risk of skin cancer.

I can't really talk tho because I go tanning every once in awhile but at least I ain't orange lol.
Reply:Tanning is VERY unhealthy! How could anything possibly be healthy for you if its exposing you to the harmful UV rays that are diagnosing half of America with skin cancer??? Wouldn't you want to help yourself rather than hurting yourself???Especially if you go to tanning beds and things like that, because all your really doing is baking your skin for a disastrous meal! I know tanned bodies look really good, especially in the summer time, with the sun glistening off the specks of water on your body when just stepping out of the pool... oh sorry *smilez* BUT, you can still get that same exact look without going thru the harmful skin damaging process. What could do this??? The self tanning lotions of course! It requires NO sun or harmful UV rays! So say hurray for saving your skin!!! Although you may not see instant results, you still have to stay committed to it so that the results will gradually appear over time!
Reply:Go hear and read up, I read an article in Glamor about the affects of the sun causing skin cancer and was modified, especially since most people are exposed before 18 and being 27 and use to tan w/ Crisco (the 90's) I am praying that I never get it, now I always cover up w/ suntan lotion and Double up on my babies. Also your are suppose to put it on 15min before leaving home and your SPF should depend on what your doing that day AND you should reapply every few hours. Protect yourself I know how you feel, I look like a ghost and I'm a hottie w/ a tan (my hubby says so) But I use a tanning lotion, he would much rather have me healthy, plus he still thinks I'm hot! LOL! ;)

Reply:my great aunt used to lay out in the sun all day every day of summer. now she has skin like leather, skin cancer, and is not allowed to be in direct sunlight at all.

so, if you want to tan a lot, this is what you have to look forward to.

...however, 15 minutes of direct sunlight everyday gives you your daily vitamin D intake. just don't bake in it.

Tanning Bed/Booth question?

What are the details of getting a tan from a tanning bed.

How long does it take to build up the tan and how long is it maintained? Is it maintained as much as the real thing? Or does it fade faster?
Tanning Bed/Booth question?
What some people don't seem to understand is that a "tanning bed" tan IS a "real" tan. The lamps used in tanning beds produce the same UVA and UVB rays as the sun. However, in my opinion a tanning bed is somewhat safer b/c you get a controlled amount of the rays unlike the sun. Everyone is different, and some ppl tan easier than others. But you need to listen to your tan consultant. They know more about it than you and (if they are certified) will advise you wisely. But if you are tring to quickly build your tan, begin tanning daily, when you achieve the tan you desire, back off a little and only tan 2-3 days per week to maintain your tan. It will not fade any faster than a tan from the sun would. Like I said before everyone is different and it depends on how long your melanan holds the pigment and how quickly your skin "sheds". And please moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

The salon will offer many lotions and they all seem very complicated, but let me help, Accelorator- This is good. It will help moisturize and accelorate you tan. Bronzers- Have fake tanner in them to make you think you are tanning quicker (will not protect you from the sun even though you think you are darker) Cooling Factors- Have a mental feel and seem to "cool" you, Tiggle or Hot Factor- Make you feel like you are burning. If you have never tried one and didn't know what it was you may very well think your skin is on fire and something is very wrong.

I personal will not use anything but a good accelorator lotion without the "extras" b/c the Bronzer, Tiggle, and Cooling lotions actually dry you out more and to achieve the best tan your skin needs moisture. I can't stress that enough. Also lotions that are very fragrant (bath and body, VS, etc.) or even tanning lotion that is too fragrant contain a lot of alcohol and try your skin out sooo much. I wouldn't use them when I am not tanning muchless when I am. So remember Moisturize before, during and after tanning. I promise this is the key to a great tan and great skin.

All this being said, ALL "TANS" ARE SKIN DAMAGE!!
Tanning Bed/Booth question?
Well.. I went through a tanning bed phase for a couple of monthis this semester... but I do not plan on doing it again.

The tan took about 2 weeks to be noticeable for me, however I usually only went twice a week. As the weeks progressed though, I was quite tan by the end of my sessions.

I stopped tanning about 3 weeks ago, and my skin has DEFINITELY faded. Imagine tanning outside for a month, and then staying inside *all* the time. It's the same idea.

I would say that it stays just as long as the "real thing"--since the same thing is happening to your skin outdoors and indoors (keep in mind that a tan is a sign of skin damage, whether you are outdoors or indoors.)

Just be careful if you start tanning... Keep it in moderation, as I know some girls who have become kind of addicted...
Reply:If you are light or fair skinned, you should start at the minimal time of 3 minutes. Once you have done that for about 3 sessions you may bump your time up to 4 or 5 minutes. Every 3 or 4 sessions bump your time up 2 minutes. If you burn - DO NOT INCREASE YOUR TIME. Allow your burn to heal (burning is how you get skin cancer) and then resume tanning once you are not burnt. This is the reason you start low - to prevent burning. Once you are at a comfortable color (this may take 2-3 months of 2 sessions per week) you may remain at your current time without increasing it. It is important to keep everything in moderation to avoid skin complications. Using the lotions that the salon sell also help increase your tanning potential and speed up the process. Accellerators (step 1) are good for your first few weeks of tanning as they prepare the skin and give you a base tan. Bronzers (step 2) are good after your base tan is built, they give you a nice glow. Dual bronzers are bronzers %26amp; self tanners mixed, these are also great for immediate results but can be streaky if not rubbed in properly (use circular motions). Moisturizing after every session can help maintain your tan. Also - dont forget eye protection EVER. Only use the goggles sold in salons and not towels, quarters, or cotton balls. Keeping your eyes closed is NOT good enough. Remember, always make sure you are studying your skin closely every so often for strange moles or marks. Happy tanning!
Reply:It depends on the number of bulbs in a tanning bed. If its a 20 min bed it will take a couple of weeks. If the bed is less time and has more bulbs it takes less time. You can maintain a tan if you go once or twice weekly. You also need to use good indoor tanning lotion with a bronzer in it this helps you get darker faster and keep the tan longer.
Reply:tanning beds emit uv rays just as the sun does, so the tans that u receive are identical...so, the tan u get from a bed is going to last the same amount of time as one you`d get if u were to tan outside...if u intend to use a bed, remember to use a lotion formulated for tanning bed use, as moisturized skin tans better %26amp; holds color much longer...u can`t use mass-market tanning lotions when u tan in a bed as some of the ingredients damage the acrylic shield on the bed...also, u will want to use a good moisturizing lotion after u shower, to keep your skin hydrated, as tanning will dry out your skin...dry skin actually reflects the uv rays, so will lessen the chance of u getting good color...also, exfoliating regularly will get rid of dead skin that tends to give your tan a dull color...
Reply:i work in a tanning salon so here are the facts.

the lights are not the same as the sun yes they are uv a and uv b but they are created artificially for our benifit.

tanning indoors is safer because it is controled.

to start with we work with 225watt tubes and their is 60 tubes in each of our beds after 15 sessions evey other day you will have your maximum colour, this is then maintained by a couple of sessions a week.

when using a tanning bed you must moisturise directly before tanning this will help you tan more evenly and quicker. they are products out their for tanning but a good moisturiser will do fine. you must exfoliate and moisturise every day to keep you skin healthy.

tanning beds can also help skin problems provide you with vitamin d and make you feel better. hope this helps the best thing to do is to talk to your local tanning salon for more info.
Reply:It depends on how dark you want to get. I go 3 times a week until I get about the color I want. Then I go down to 2 times a week. Once it starts getting hotter outside and I have the color I want I go once a week to maintain it.

It is important that you use a good tanning lotion, the best can be bought at the salon and of course the more expensive the better. You also need to keep your skin moisturized to help hold the tan longer and get a better color faster. I recommend applying regular lotion once or twice a day, like after a shower.

Happy Tanning!

Tanning Question?

I really wanna start tanning but im not sure what tanning lotion/oils would be best for me...I have a very fair skin tone and I have already tried mystic tan but Im not really into the whole orange look...soo any advice?
Tanning Question?
Since I am a tanorexic professional, let me give you some advice. I live in Florida and I have my own home tanning bed. My little sister is fair and just like you new to tanning. So, I am going to give you the same advice I gave her. Since you are new to tanning, I would advise that you only go 5 minutes max each session for a week. Do not use any tanning accelerators, but do use a tan conditioning lotion. This locks your color and your moisture into your skin-any brand will do, they all do the same thing-in fact you could pick up a bottle of tanning moisturizer-with or without-the bronzer(which will only add a hint of color) at any drugstore. Your second week, step it up to 10 minutes, but be mindful of when and if your bum starts to get hot. I am assuming these are twenty minute beds of course. If you are doing okay, then add 5 minutes each week. You can always decrease the time or get out early if it is too much for you. Also try to flip halfway through because pressure points will darken faster, and five minutes on your back might mean a nice apple shaped red spot on your bum where your tailbone is. Feel free to email me if you have any other tanning questions! ENJOY!
Tanning Question?
go into any salon that sells st tropez its a really good product i advise it to al my clients that come to my salon about tanning creams and that :D
Reply:Well, if you're fair %26amp; want to start tanning, just go to any reputable tanning salon where the people who work there know what they're doing. Tell them you're not sure what tanning lotions or oils to use. They can point you in the right direction. And remember, since you're fair they'll only let you start tanning for like 5-10 minutes at first...this is to prevent severe burning! Soon, you'll work your way up...If your skin is sensitive, maybe stay away from "Tinglers" and lotions that bring the blood up to just below the surface of the skin....I can't think of the name of this type of lotion, but it will make you break out into big red splotches! You should maybe use a regular tanning lotion that helps to prolong and preserve your tan! Good Luck!
Reply:don't get a tan!

that makes you one step closer to skin cancer becuase you are being exposed to radiation waves that can cause skin cancer.
Reply:stick with lotions, most tanning salons will not let you use oils in their indoor beds. Any lotion with bronzer will be great, since your new to it, dont go and spend a whole lot of money on a lotion. start slow, go like every other day for about 4-6min depending on how you are starting to tan. after your first week start adding like a min or two every other session. after about 4 or 5 weeks you should be able to tan at the max. exposure. good luck =)
Reply:Don't do it. Believe it or not, a lot of guys find fair skinned women mucho attractive. Over time, tanning will turn your skin rough and bumpy looking, which is not attractive at all.

xx

Ok...tips on tanning?

listen .. tanning causes skin CANCER!!!!!! It looks bad and pale skin is always in. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok...tips on tanning?
I think you should just lay out in the sun.
Reply:The 1st answer is right. Cancer can be caused by tanning in a booth the same as in the sun. Try using a tanner in a bottle. or a bronzer.

whatever looks right..personally no tan

only if you do it too much/get to dark
Reply:tanning tends to always look somewhat fake. The most I would go is once or twice a month, maybe once every two weeks, but even that is too much.

Ask the people there, they'll know the specifics. But just remember, some of the risks (aside from skin cancer) include:

dark patches on skin

moles

red dots

wrinkles/dry skin

possible infections from the tanning bed

Dry using a self-tanner on your face, arms and legs. It actually looks just as good if you get the right brand (i like dove or loreal). Get the ones that are part tanner, part moisturizer, so they are not as strong and look natural. Good luck
Reply:I am very light skinned also. If you're really serious about tanning, you need to go to a tanning place and talk to them. Don't tan with a bikini because you'll get horrible tanlines. Start out around 5-6 minutes and work your way up. Start out by using a tan accelerator (lotion) don't use a bronzer at first because you'll burn. To build a base tan you should go 2-3 times a week. Make sure to use a lotion, especially during the winter months because your skin will become dry. Also, your hair will become lighter, if you want to prevent it, wrap it in a towel (most tanning places provide towels). Again, if you have any questions the tanning place should be able to help you out. Make sure to wear protective goggles, yes, they will give you racoon eyes, makeup can help get rid of it, and it's better than losing your sight.
Reply:no, 15mins max for the bed, 10mins max for standup, depends on the quality of beds, risks are pretty much not worth it long term but dang i look good with color, you'll get to a certain point of tanning where you wont advance anymore which is when you'll have to start using bronzers to add color dye so to speak to your skin, the tanning CAN look fake when some ppl leave their arms at their sides all the time their armpits are white so as long as you somewhat tan naturally in the sun and rarely burn you'll look natural enough if you dont overdo it.
Reply:I do the mystic tan, or the spray tan. I simply wear a pair of tiny underwear i dont care about. I love it though, I never have issues with the color looking orange either. Typically its about twenty to thirty dollars a month. It also only takes about a minute.

Tanning after a hot vacation?

I had recently returned from Punta Cana with a wonderful tan!! I heard of people going to the tanning salons after to keep their tan.

Can anyone give me some advice, or comments on this situation?! That would be a huge help!!

Thanks!! :)
Tanning after a hot vacation?
I own a tanning salon. Go on once a week for 6-8 minutes with accelorator cream to prevent leather skin, keep you moisturised and speed up your minutes on a sunbed. I'd reccomend using stand up beds as lay downs tend to leave people with their backs an the back of their legs red just from the heat of the bed.
Tanning after a hot vacation?
well yes i would get a tan to keep up the look, but don't do it until it stats to fade because if u do it to much and get greedy you will end up looking stupid and making a fool of yourself just to look beautiful when you already are. And when u get the tan i suggest putting on a stick of a shape to make it look cool! hehehe! so yeah don't do it right away wait until the color starts to fade.

hope i helped! =)
Reply:Avoid the tanning salons. And in my 20s, I got some wonderful tans as well. At 32, I had my first melanoma.

Any good tanning tips? As a kid when i lived in Orlando, I got a nice tan year round, but now in NC I only get burnt. Any tanning help? PLEASE!

Go to the tanning bed 3-5 times a week you will get a good tan. Good luck!

Tanning question!!!!?
Use a sunscreen where the SPF isnt that high. Meaning, you will still get tan and wont get burnt. My boyfriend burns bad when he uses this hes fine (he works outside) I myself, never burn. Never used the stuff. Oooor you can just go to the tanning bed stay in for 7-10 minutes w/ their lotion on, and you'll get tanner quicker. :o)
Reply:You should never ever tan. It will age you prematurely and causes skin cancer. You could always use sunless tanner. That's what I do. I will never tan because I don't want wrinkles or skin cancer. By the way, I'm very white too.
Reply:never get a tan you can get skin cancer!!!

have you heard of that one cream that gives you a tan.

there is also a thing called 7 second tan but that is in another country and way way too expensive

Tanning bed and sunscreen?

I'd like to be able to utilize the "unlimited, free" usage of the tanning beds at my gym, and get myself a nice tan so I don't burn over the summer. I'd like to use sunscreen to block out harmful uva and uvb rays, but still get a nice golden tan. Is this pointless?
Tanning bed and sunscreen?
I actually read this really good article about it, you'll find more useful information there I'm sure:

http://www.carefair.com/Skincare/Summer-...
Tanning bed and sunscreen?
I wouldn't use sunscreen. Just use a lotion and start out with short sessions. All beds are different so you need to make sure you don't stay in too long. For example, if the max time in the bed is 12 minutes, start out with 3 or 4 minutes until you get a little color, then go to 7 or 8 and so on. I tanned for years but now I just use the Jergens tanning moisturizer.
Reply:just use a self tanning spray I honestly don't think even the sunscreen would help and anyway you wouldn't really get tanned

Tanning for a light skin tone?

Is it true that if someone has a light skin tone and goes tanning a few times they will get tan? That's after they burn a little b/c they will have a tan base of skin right? Just wondering

Thanks for your answers
Tanning for a light skin tone?
yes that is true, it does take time to build a tan for light skin tones, however tanning is SO BAD FOR YOU! Especially for people with lighter skin tones. You need to invest some time into researching tanning lotions (like St. Tropez or fake bake) instead of tanning. What seems cool now, might later lead to a huge scar on your body from where they removed skin cancer.

Tanning bed? Sun poisening??

I used to tan CONSTENTLY...I love tanning..The relaxing feeling you get...ahhh. But I don't burn..I have NEVER been sun burnt in my LIFE...I went to mexico and didn't were any sunblock...I also worked on a black roof the whole 2 weeks I was there all day long..In the sun..Never got sunburnt..But I get sun poisening constantly..I don't know when to stop tanning..I don't get burnt but the last 8 days I have gone..I have gotten sun poisening..What do you suggest? Is this normal??
Tanning bed? Sun poisening??
You are at great risk for skin cancer by not using sunscreen. See a dermatologist and get your skin checked to be on the safe side. ALso all of your sun exposure without sunscreen leads to skin damage and increased wrinkles. See a dermatologis and get this all checked out to be safe.
Tanning bed? Sun poisening??
I wouln't say that is normal. You could be allerfic to UV rays. Or you may be extra sensitive to them if you are on meds (i.e. birth control, diuretics, some antibiotis etc.) I would see a dermatologist to find out. But definitely start using at least a light sunscreen to help protect youself from melanoma(skin cancer-very deadly.)

Tanning and its harmful effects?

I dont go tanning (so don't yell.) I know that tanning is bad especially since the UV rays are so much closer to your skin. And if you go alot it will cause pre-mature wrinkles and even cancer. Is there any effects on your internal organs? I heard that by going tanning it "cooks" (yeah pretty gross) your reproductive organs. Is that true?
Tanning and its harmful effects?
Fortunately, tanning beds do NOT cook any internal organs, the rays go only skin deep (pardon the pun :). This is a common misconception, and around my area it has been rumored that one gal in hopes of securing a base tan in one day went to five different salons consecutively and died from internal organ cookage. This however cannot logically happen. At one tanning conference my tanning distributor attended the folks that put it on actually put a raw 4 lb chicken in a tanning bed, and set the time for the entire weekend conference. By the time the 3 day meet was over, the chicken was still raw, so my dear, fear not, tanning beds cannot cook your insides in any way shape or form. However, tanning multiple times in succession (more than once a day) is terrible for your skin, and can have many types of reprocussions, like hospitalization for sun poisioning, and can be terribly uncomfortable while walking and sleeping, etc. As with almost anything from sweet and low to sunscreen, over-exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles and cancer. Simply limit your exposure time, apply the proper tanning lotions provided by salons and you will not be guaranteed a "safe" tan, however you are less likely to burn. Burning is more closely linked to cancer than simply browning, so just listen to the tanning associates and your risk will not be as high, however there is still risk involved.
Tanning and its harmful effects?
No that is not true.
Reply:"No. This question is usually asked due to the urban legend about a woman who cooked her insides from tanning at multiple locations. Often the legend is also accompanied with the idea that tanning light is the same thing as microwaves. This, in fact, is not the case. UVA with your average tanning bed penetrates about 2mm deep (about the thickness of cardboard) into the body. UVA penetrates deeper than UVB, but even if ultraviolet light could reach your internal organs, it doesn't work like microwaves do. Imagine that you want to heat up a slice of pizza. Put it into the tanning unit for 30 minutes. What's going to happen? Maybe it would get a little warm from the heat of the lamps, but that's it. Now take that same slice of pizza and put it into the microwave for 30 minutes. What's going to happen to that slice of pizza now? The pizza would be ashes at the end of 30 minutes. Tanning light and microwaves behave differently."
Reply:no not true, your body needs uv rays to help increase certain chemicals ie; dopamine, seratonin. of course in small doses don't over do it! always use sublock!
