I dont go tanning (so don't yell.) I know that tanning is bad especially since the UV rays are so much closer to your skin. And if you go alot it will cause pre-mature wrinkles and even cancer. Is there any effects on your internal organs? I heard that by going tanning it "cooks" (yeah pretty gross) your reproductive organs. Is that true?
Tanning and its harmful effects?
Fortunately, tanning beds do NOT cook any internal organs, the rays go only skin deep (pardon the pun :). This is a common misconception, and around my area it has been rumored that one gal in hopes of securing a base tan in one day went to five different salons consecutively and died from internal organ cookage. This however cannot logically happen. At one tanning conference my tanning distributor attended the folks that put it on actually put a raw 4 lb chicken in a tanning bed, and set the time for the entire weekend conference. By the time the 3 day meet was over, the chicken was still raw, so my dear, fear not, tanning beds cannot cook your insides in any way shape or form. However, tanning multiple times in succession (more than once a day) is terrible for your skin, and can have many types of reprocussions, like hospitalization for sun poisioning, and can be terribly uncomfortable while walking and sleeping, etc. As with almost anything from sweet and low to sunscreen, over-exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles and cancer. Simply limit your exposure time, apply the proper tanning lotions provided by salons and you will not be guaranteed a "safe" tan, however you are less likely to burn. Burning is more closely linked to cancer than simply browning, so just listen to the tanning associates and your risk will not be as high, however there is still risk involved.
Tanning and its harmful effects?
No that is not true.
Reply:"No. This question is usually asked due to the urban legend about a woman who cooked her insides from tanning at multiple locations. Often the legend is also accompanied with the idea that tanning light is the same thing as microwaves. This, in fact, is not the case. UVA with your average tanning bed penetrates about 2mm deep (about the thickness of cardboard) into the body. UVA penetrates deeper than UVB, but even if ultraviolet light could reach your internal organs, it doesn't work like microwaves do. Imagine that you want to heat up a slice of pizza. Put it into the tanning unit for 30 minutes. What's going to happen? Maybe it would get a little warm from the heat of the lamps, but that's it. Now take that same slice of pizza and put it into the microwave for 30 minutes. What's going to happen to that slice of pizza now? The pizza would be ashes at the end of 30 minutes. Tanning light and microwaves behave differently."
Reply:no not true, your body needs uv rays to help increase certain chemicals ie; dopamine, seratonin. of course in small doses don't over do it! always use sublock!
