I'm a fair-skinned person and I've never been tan. I've never been one to lay out in the sun or go to the tanning salon but me and some friends are going to florida in august and I know they will want to lay out on the beach a lot. I want to gradually build up a little bit of color on myself and most importantly build a little tolerance to the sun. I thought about just going to the tanning salon before the trip to do that but I was wondering what would be the best approach? How far in advance should I start? How often do I go? How long in the bed each time? I've never done it so I have no idea at all. I think right before I go I will have to use a good fake tanner all over to get the color that I want and of course I plan on using lots and lots of sun block while I'm in FL but I've also had a tendency to burn easily in the past. The main reason why I want to do the tanning bed thing is to build a little tolerance to the sun. Any advice you could give me using this info would be great!
Question about tanning?
When you start off in the beds, it's a very small amount (I'm not sure but I think it's about five minutes) and it takes forever to build up to thirty minutes.
It's better to just go lay outside in the sun with some SPF 15 for ten-twenty minutes every few days.
It's free and exactly the same as tanning beds.
And that way you'll know how long you can stay in the sun without burning and you'll have some color.
Question about tanning?
dont do the bed its worse then just laying out in the sun try a spray tan from the salon if your going to do it.if your a very fair person and just want a little color use a light
Reply:yeah, going to the tanning salon would be a good approach... ask the person there how long they suggest u should go... be sure to tell them it's your first time too... usually when its your first time, u dont go any longer than 10 minutes. especially if you are one to burn easily.
happy tanning :) lol
Reply:I would suggest going to the tanning bed. While its not the best thing for you, it will help lessen the possibility of you getting a severe sunburn. You can wear sunscreen in the tanning bed if you like. A tanning excelertor/lotion may be used once you have a little color to you.
The staff at the tanning place should be able to recommend times for you. If they aren't very helpful, find another place. The more you tan in advance, the less you will have to worry about burning and don't use a dark tanning, oil based, accelerator once you get to Florida. If you do, you might regret that as it can really increase the effects of the sun and turn you into a lobster.
Reply:my wife likes to stay tan. I tell her it is going to give her wrinkles prematurely but she enjoys it so I do not care to much. I would suggest using the sun if you have a place that you feel comfortable laying out to tan. If you do not tanning booths will give you privacy. You will have to be careful. My wife did it for ten minutes and burned her self and she is naturally darker. this will differe on the different types of beds and bulbs used. I would not do it to long it is better to go more often then stay longer.
enjoy the time in the bed or in the sun relax and allow the rays to rejuvenate your mind as well. We all know that the sun will do that. In Oregon we have a lot of people with SAD seasonal depression. these tanning beds help a lot of people so they get two benefits out of it.
Reply:def start with a tanner (bronzer not a tingler) and start with 7 min and add one minute every 3 days. i would start 6-4 wks before the trip. keep your skin hydrated after you start tanning, after your first 1-2 sessions, you might burn and begin to peel, if you do, skip 2 days and then go every day increasing one minute every 3 days. thats how i tan and it works every year.
Reply:There is no such thing as building tolerance to the sun - any sun exposure (including a "base tan") will cause irreparable damage to your skin, causing wrinkles, a leathery feeling, and put you in a greater risk for skin cancer, especially since you're fair skinned %26amp; burn easily. I would recommend the jergens moisturizer with tanner to get you started, and then go to an actual tanning lotion or spray (i recommend the mists for sprays - you don't have to rub them in, or the banana boat lotion with the dial that allows you to control your color.) Use an SPF 45 in FL while you're out (you should be using about 1 oz, or a shotglass-full, for your entire body) and reapply often!
Reply:A tanning bed is the equivalent to putting yourself in a stove and hitting bake. I suggest a sunless tanner or a spray tan if you want color. When you go to the beach take along sunscreen with SPF of either 15, 30, or 45. Don't go over 45 or it's like smearing baby oil all over you. Sunscreen will protect you from the harmful UV rays.
Tanning all depends on how well your skin holds color. For instance, I have consentrated points of melanin mostly on my face which causes me to freckle. I can't tan because the melanin is only in certain parts of my body.
If you don't freckle then it's a good chance that you'll tan and sunscreen won't prevent that. So good luck and have fun and keep yourself sun safe!
