Tanning bed while in 1st trimester, Is it safe?

I was just wondering if it was safe to use the tanning bed in early weeks of pregnancy. My husband and I are NOT trying to get pregnant, but we are not preventing it either. If it happens, it happens. I have been tanning in the tanning bed and I was wondering if I should stop if I were to suspect I were pregnant. Please let me know!
Tanning bed while in 1st trimester, Is it safe?
No its not safe but some woman dont know they are pregnant until their missed period so they continue to drink and smoke too in early pregnancy and that doesnt seem to affect some babies (Lots of girls I know who got pregnant continued to drink in early pregnancy but stopped once they knew and their baby was born fine) I would suggest if you think you could be pregnant to stop immediately. You arent suppose to raise the mothers temperature too much because then it will start to draw blood away from the baby to keep it cool and I dont know what that can do in early pregnancy but it still doesnt seem safe. I think if you arent TTC but your arent preventing it either that you should look into an alternative way to get tan just in case you do get pregnant.

stop using your bed while your pregnant you can really hurt the baby.
Reply:Yes you should stop! I would suggest you try tan towels from HSN they are great, do not streak and do not turn you orange!

Always have compliments when I use them!

Reply:umm DUH NO!! a tanning bed cooks from the inside out....it is not safe at all....
Reply:If you were to suspect you were pregnant, yes, I would stop. Tanning durning pregnancy is not a good idea, particually artifical tanning.

However, if you continue to tan until you suspect you are or find out you are, I'm sure you'll be fine.
Reply:Yes you should stop. Because if you are pregnant you are not suppose to be raising your body temperature by much. Also tanning beds as I am sure you are aware increase your risk for skin cancer and if you are pregnant with changing hormones that could accelerate cancer as well. Good luck in your pursuit for a baby, and take care of yourself.
Reply:Yes, I wouldn't reccomend it during later stages but if a tanning bed can hurt you then dont go out in the sun either. It's light. ..not gamma rays or radiation. Dont want to get to hot though. If u still are uncomfy, spray on tans are fast and easy. I'm waiting for someone to answer that they did and their child has a dark skin tone now or came out african american........lol. Good luck and dont worry about it. You'd be surprised all the things that are ok to do when your pregnant.
Reply:Just so you know.. the reason a tanning bed isnt safe during pregnancy is because it warms up your amniotic water too much. So yes if you were to be pregnant you should stop but going to the tanning bed once or twice isnt really going to harm the baby so while it is best to stop tanning, if you were pregnant and didnt know you should be fine. Just dont do it after you get the positive result.
Reply:Stop using it, it can seriously har your baby, do not use it at all during pregnancy!
Reply:From babycenter.com:

If the threat of developing skin cancer doesn't frighten you, consider the possibility that lying in a tanning booth can raise your body temperature to a level that may be hazardous to your baby, particularly during your first trimester. Having an elevated body temperature during pregnancy 鈥?that is, above 102 degrees F. (which can happen in a tanning bed, hot tub, or sauna) 鈥?has been associated with spinal malformations in developing babies. And then there's the concern that lying on your back too long might restrict blood to your heart and thus to your baby as well. You'll know when this happens because you'll feel lightheaded.
Reply:Yes!! That could be very dangerous to the baby!
Reply:Definitely do not continue to tan. It is very harmful for you and your baby.
