i'm 20 years old %26amp; i've never been in a tanning bed before. i'm pretty white, lol, and for valentines day i want to have some color for my date! i've done spray tans %26amp; bronzing and stuff but those don't turn out so even, so i'm definetely up for the tanning bed!

all i'd like to know is what do they make you do like from the second you walk in a tanning salon? lol. like is it ok if you wear makeup? how long should i go for? do i just lay in there %26amp; press the on button %26amp; count for example, 10 minutes, %26amp; then just unlock the tanning bed %26amp; get out? i'm so lost! hehe.

any help would be great! thanks!
Need help with tanning beds!?
Basically the tanning place will have you fill out a short form about meds you are taking, how easy you tan, etc. Then they'll let you choose what type of bed you'd like, and start the timer. You can always get out early if you feel like you might be burning, or you get too hot; they don't lock. The people at the tanning salon will help you decide how long you should start out in the bed, based on your skin type. All you have to do is put on your lotion and goggles, and lay in the bed and relax. The people working at the salon may want you to clean the bed, or they may do it for you...just depends on the salon. The one that I go to cleans the beds after each person uses them.

You can wear your makeup, but if it has an spf in it, your face may not tan as easily as the rest of you. I always wear my makeup in the tanning bed, even though it has an spf. My face burns quite easily, so I actually like having the spf in my makeup to block out a little of the tanning bed rays. You can always darken your face with some bronzer if it doesn't match the rest of your body.

Be sure to use a good tanning lotion though; they really do help maximize your results in the tanning bed. One with bronzers will help tan you a lot faster! You don't have to buy them at the salon; you can get them a lot cheaper online, like on ebay, lotion4you.com, lotionbarn.com etc.

You'll have to fill out some paper work first. You need a to buy a lotion, probably a light colored (without a lot of bronzer or you'll have streaks) one since you are fair. The lotion will help you not burn so badly and it will make you tan quicker.

I would suggest you don't go over 8 - 10 minutes. It's fine to wear makeup, I do it all the time. They'll give you about 5 minutes to get undressed, put lotion on, get some music playing, and get in the bed (put your goggles on!). You can also get a sticker from the front counter to see how much you've tanned. The tanning bed comes on automatically and it shuts off after your minutes are done.

If I were you I would take it as slow as possible. You need to develop a base tan first but you won't be able to do that in 5 days unless you want to have a red color instead of bronze.
Reply:The tanning bed is a slow process for color to develop, you won't have any results by Vday, unless you're burned. I suggest that you check into a good spray tan salon, a lot of day spas will airbrush you by hand for better results than the regular spray tan machine.
Reply:well when you walk into a tanning salon your gonna have to sign up theyll give you papers put your name and all that stuff and then theres usually a paper thats kinda like a quiz they ask you your skin tone your hair color eye color etc and by all that info

the employees that work there should be able to tell you what bed to go in..

and you shouldnt wear makeup ! i mean you can but its better when you have a washed face cause ive heard you dont get that much color on your face with makeup on

and how long you should go in for well that depends on how light your skin is very very light then you should def start off ten minutes because you dont wanna get burned so start off with the ten just to see how your skin reacts if you dont get burned then id do a 20 min

and yess you just go in the bed and lay there and juss

close the top it dont lock or anything so you can get in

and out easily

but if you have any more questions

just ask im good at this i tan daily =]]
Reply:It's different based on where you go. This is what usually happens:

You go in and give them your information. They might have you fill out a consent form saying you understand the dangers of tanning and all that.

The person working will decide how long you go in for. This all depends on the intensity of the bed you use. It could be as little as three minutes. Given that this is your first time tanning, you won't be in the bed for very long because you will burn.

Also, they might try and sell you some kind of tanning enhancement lotions. You don't really need them, but it's up to you.

Since it's your first time, the person working will probably take you back to the bed and show you how everything works. After they leave them room you'll undress and get in the bed. Usually there's some sort of button you press to start the process. Or, I've also been to a few places where they give you a certain amount of time before the bed starts automatically. It all depends on the salon.

Then you just lay there (or sometimes stand) and relax for a few minutes. There's usually music playing to help it go faster. And a fan to keep you cool.

When the bed turns off you just get up, get dressed, and leave. Some places have a cleaning solution and paper towels and ask that you wipe down the bed before you leave. So make sure to do that if you see them there.

I've worn make up tanning before and it's been fine. Also, you won't be locked in the bed or anything, you can open it up while you're in there, but I wouldn't advise it because it could make you tan less even.

Be aware though, this is your first time so you may burn a little. But it should only last a day, the next time you go back you'll probably start to tan.

Good luck!
