What's worse - tanning in the sun, or in a tanning booth?

I've always wondered which one of these is worse. I've never gone to a tanning booth and never will, I'm Italian and tan very quickly, so I always get a nice tan from just being outside. But I've had girlfriends who have gone to tanning booths and know of other people, and I've always wondered if one was worse than the other.

It seems to me that you might get more vitamin D from the sun, but then you get the UV rays so I don't know.

a tanning bed. most places only allow you to be in a tanning bed for 20 min in a low level because the uv rays are bad for you. i guess the sun is better. but wearing a low spf. will give you a nice tan and protect you from the rays. =]

i asked my doctor this and he said the sun is worse for you
Reply:Tanning booth. They are both very bad for you. If you use sunscreen out in the sun then its not that bad. You just have to make sure to reapply every half hour and put it on a half hour before you go out into the sun.
Reply:i think tanning in a bed is better, because the time is regulated...don`t get me wrong, they`re both bad, but many people underestimate their tolerance to the sun %26amp; end up staying outside much longer than they should %26amp; end up with a nasty burn!!! i prefer to tan in a bed, which i do daily...
Reply:A tanning bes is much better for you. The UV rays are monitored unlike the sun. Also a tanning bed is a controlled enviroment meaning the exposure to the UV rays are not as harmful. Sure all sun exposure has its risks however tanning beds are much safer.
Reply:The booth! Oh God the Booth!

I don't know how those things ever made it past initial testing. They are far, far more dangerous than the sun.

Reply:a tanning booth not only looks fake but its not healthy for your innards. the sun is a more healthy way to tan but always do it in moderation. the more burns you get the higher your chances for skin cancer or other skin problems.
Reply:I guess the booth because its not real but really theyre both bad for your skin
