Tanning, can it cause harm to tattoos?

I dont tan because i am under the impression that tanning beds can fade my tattoos, is this a myth or true? also will tanning in the sun harm them? what can i do to better protect them in the summer
Tanning, can it cause harm to tattoos?
Tanning bed people lie - there is no difference whether you tan outside or in a bed - there is UV radiation in both and UV radiation will fade tattoos. You can better protect your tattoos by covering them with a good sunscreen, or clothing, at all times of year - preferably one with (clear) zinc oxide.
Tanning, can it cause harm to tattoos?
no tanning will not harm your tattoos ok
Reply:Tattoos are obviously more noticeable on light skin. But tanning wont make them fade , you just wont notice them as much. Besides i like the look of tattoos with a tan. Ive got 3 and a tan has never faded any of them after all tans fade not tattoos.
Reply:I have one really great tattoo on my back. All I can share with you is what my artist said to me when he gave me my tattoo and that was:

"Always put suntan blocker on this tattoo when you go outside."
Reply:I've heard it can make them fade but I don't know if I believe it... they say to use chap stick... I don't use anything and so far so good!
Reply:Tanning and tattoos both are terrible for your skin. You should probably stop with the tanning if you have ever stopped. Those UV light rays can really hurt ur skin and can cause skin cancer. No type of tanning is good. Don't worry about your skin, be thankful for the tone you have.
Reply:use a good sunblock, natural sun will fade them too
Reply:Never allow sun to directly hit a tattoo. always cover and use spf 45 or higher.

i knew a dude that ruined two full sleeves in one summer. went from brand new vibrant tats to almost nothing.
Reply:tattoos can fade over time from the sun.. the sun will harm a tattoo if it is new. you should wait till your tattoo is healed before exposing it to the sun for a long period of time. after the tattoo is healed to keep if from fadding put sun screen over the tattoo, if u are tanning in a bed make sure to put the sun screen on then too. i recomend spf 30
Reply:they don't call them "harmful UV rays" for nothing.
Reply:When I got my first tattoo I asked my tattoo artist about tanning and he said the Sun will fade tattoos and as proof he took off his shirt and you could see how faded the ones on his arm were compared to the ones that were hidden under his shirt there was even a major contrast in a tattoo that was half in the sun half covered. Ever since than I have avoided tanning beds (even though this use to be a weekly thing and my favorite way of relaxing) and when ever I go out I put SPF 60 sun screen on all my tattoos just in case. Because of this even tattoos I鈥檝e gotten 6-7 years ago look almost new. My advice to you would be to avoid the tanning bed unless you want to go back for tattoo touch ups every couple of years.
Reply:Any kind of tanning fades tattoos. I'm living proof. I had two tattoos for years (10 or 1 5) and I tanned regularly at a salon. Not 'overly', just regularly. Mine faded out a lot. I had them recolored and was told by the tattoo artist that the tanning had faded them. I didn't want to give up tanning, however and started using a high spf rated sunblock to dab onto only the tattoo before I tanned. Then I found a product they sell at the salon. I don't know the name of it, because it's in my tanning bag in the car, but it's a little wax stick thing that twists out kinda like a lipstick. It's in a white oval shaped stick and has a dragon printed on the front. You color it onto your tattoo and it protects the color while allowing the skin around the tattoo to tan. Mine were recolored in 2000, and they still look as bright and fresh as the day I came home. And I have a tan.
Reply:tanning will fade your tats. if you dont believe me, come look at mine!!!!! they sell a tanning......product just for tats
Reply:Yup. Exposure to UV rays, over time, can act like a mild laser treatment, and cause your tattoos to fade.

You can prevent this by using a strong suncreen (SPF 30 or higher) over your tattoo.
Reply:If you have healed tats, just use sunblock........if they are new

you must keep them out of the sun, tanning beds, chlorine in swimming pools, lakes, rivers, lakes, streams, and ponds,

they all have bacteria in them and that could cause infection.
Reply:duhhh of course it can..thats why they say dont go to the beach and try and show it off and when you go tanning put something over it.Order lotion to protect them...they make it
Reply:Just make sure you keep sunscreen on it.

I go to a tanning bed and there is a new sunscreen that I bought that protects from the sun and tanning beds.

Sorry I can't remember the name of it...ask your tanning salon!
Reply:it's not a myth, it's true. Tanning beds and the sun (there's no difference) really harm your tattoo colors. You should always wear something to cover and protect them from the sun.
Reply:YES IT DOES!! IT WILL FADE THE COLOR OF YOUR TATS!
Reply:Tanning, indoor or outdoor, can harm your tattoo.
