Tanning Bed/Sun Tanning Tans ??????

1) I am extreamly fair skin and I was wondering if I will get a medium complextion or any change at all after just one sitting in the tanning bed?

2) If not how many sittings will it take to get from fair skin to medium skin (the medium kind like Mel Rose from top model--one of the lighter shades of medium)?

3) Do tanning beds give you the tan you would get from the sun?

4) After you do the tanning bed will you still tan from the sun? or can you still tan from the sun afterwards?

5) How long do the tans from tanning bed last?

6) If you do both tanning bed and tanning in the sun what happens? like what happens when the tanning bed tan wears off?

Any extra info you got would help too!

Tanks!
Tanning Bed/Sun Tanning Tans ??????
1. You should probably only go for 4 minutes your first time. Ask the people at the tanning salon, they'll know.

2. Probably around 10

3. Yes.

4. Yes, you can still get tan from the sun.

5. Depends on how often you go. You can buy lotions that will keep your color longer.

6. Nothing will happen if you tan in a bed %26amp; in the sun. It will just deepen your tan.
Tanning Bed/Sun Tanning Tans ??????
sorry I did mean to give you five *. I am so sorry. but thank you again. Report It

Reply:Well if I was you I would NOT go to the Tanning Bed almost every person I know when they get older they ALL have leathery looking skin and also most of them get skin cancer....Sun tanning is ALOT safer (with sunscreen of course) but one thing about sun tanning is it looks natural....Hope I Helped!!!!
Reply:Personally, I would shoot for the self-tanner. Its just less of a hastle. I'm not at all sure about tanning beds, but self-tanner comes in various shades, so a fair skined person would be covered.
Reply:okay when u go for the first time..go to a regular bed not high pressure. go at least 10 mins bc those beds go up to 20. so go at least half the time. u might be barely pink the next day so wait and go the day after and go 12 mins and so on. u should get a medium color by ur 4th visit. u can go straight from a tanning bed and tan outside and youll get darker. as long as u werent burnt from the bed. i tanned inside and out before i became pregnant and i was so dark. the sun will always give u a better color tan but a bed tan looks good too. hope this helped.
Reply:whoa.......

1. you'll probably get a change after one visit, just make sure you don't go in too long and get burnt!

2. I would say around 5-7 visits depending on the strength of the bulbs at the tanner you're going to.

3. Tanning beds give you a comparable tan.

4. I would always tan in the sun if I had time! You can always do both.

5. Tans from a bed last a while once you have been regularly going I would say about a week before you are going back to normal.

6. Nothing really happens after you tan in either place except that it eventually will wear off or if you get burnt it will peel off. Thats why you have to go fairly regularly and for appropriate amounts of time.
Reply:1. no, you will need to go several times to build a base tan. begin at around 4-5 minutes since you are so fair and build up to about 12 minutes.

2. it may take a month- going possibly 4-5 times a week.

3. tanning beds give you a tan just like the sun would. you are exposed for only a few minutes to harsh rays, unlike sitting in the sun you are exposed for hours.

4. after using tanning beds you will find that you don't burn from the sun like you used to. you can still tan from the sun.

5. depending on if you keep up your tan, it can last as long as you want. it will gradually fade if you stop tanning.

6. if you do both then you are just exposed to twice as much uv rays. the end result is really the same.
Reply:Don't waste your time, money %26amp; health- I know 3 friends that developed skin cancer from tanning beds and studies support this:

Study Links Tanning Beds to Skin Cancer

WebMD Medical NewsReviewed by Gary D. Vogin, MDFeb. 5, 2002 --

Have you heard that tanning beds don't cause skin cancer? This belief isn't supported by the latest study looking at this controversial issue. Researchers found that people who used these artificial means of attaining that deep bronze glow were, in fact, putting themselves at great risk of skin cancer.

It might seem obvious to some that tanning beds would increase the chance of developing skin cancer. But others have suggested that indoor tanning is the "safer" way to tan. And medical research hasn't been able to solidly show that indoor tanning does, in fact, lead to more skin cancer.

Skin cancer, the most common type of cancer, occurs in more than a million people each year. There are three types: basal cell cancer, the most common; squamous cell cancer; and melanoma, which is the least common but most deadly type. The current study was looking only at the association between tanning beds and non-melanoma skin cancers.

Researchers at Dartmouth Medical School looked at over 1,400 people to see if any association between skin cancer and tanning beds exists. Almost 900 of them had either basal cell or squamous cell cancer. Each person was asked about their use of tanning beds or lamps or sun exposure.

Overall, those who had ever used a tanning bed were 2.5 times more likely to have squamous cell cancer and 1.5 times more likely to have basal cell cancer. When sun exposure or sunburns were factored in, the results did not change -- certainly not to say that sun doesn't also raise the risk of skin cancer.

Plus, those that started using tanning beds at an earlier age tended to be more likely to end up with skin cancer. For each decade younger someone was the first time they used a tanning device, they were 20% more likely to get squamous cell cancer -- and 10% more likely to suffer from basal cell cancer.

Although these two types of cancers don't kill you, they do require aggressive treatment with surgery. The surgery can leave disfiguring scars if the cancer isn't treated early.

Though this study doesn't prove that tanning beds actually cause skin cancer, the results certainly suggest that these devices contribute largely to the problem. More research is needed to determine if they actually cause the DNA damage that leads to skin cancer.

There are two messages here. These results make a good argument that tanning beds do raise your chance of getting skin cancer. Secondly, you should see a dermatologist regularly to get a skin check-up. Finding these cancers early makes treatment much easier.
Reply:it would take about 5 sessions of half an hour each before you will actually see the difference, before that your skin will only get slightly red but then fade away.Laying on a sunbed is the same as being in the sun it just has a lower risk factor and you will still be able to tan in the sun after being on the sunbed.Just remember that you should never do more than 10 sessions on a sunbed in two months, it actually fries your organs, slowly but surely.

Although it is safer than being exposed to the sun all of the time, it does have negative effects on your body and can also cause disease like skin cancer and boils, also always remember to check on the cleanliness of the salon where you go for tanning, it says allot about the state of the sunbed and the diseases it could carry.

A sunbed is a quick solution for a fair complexion but not a long term resolution.I would say rather apply a low SPF and go bronze up in the sun between 10 and twelve in the morning and two and four in the afternoon.

Go bronzing...
Reply:I wouldn't go to a tanning bed that is a one way ticket to skin cancer try a bronzer or spray on
